Default Clonkin gear change

Hey guys
Wondering if u can help me wif my mates problem?
He has manual xr8 as well and it sorta is starting to make a "clonk" noise when u put it into gear? Any ideas? It dont do it when u really baby it in to gear but.

Sounds like the synchro rings are not having enough time to line up. just check what oil is in the box as i have had a couple of boxes in trucks do the same thing due to the wrong viscosity of oil. and also dose the car have a standard clutch in it?

yea its got standard clutch. dunno bout oil. synchros are pretty expensive to replace rnt they?

That's when you start getting into full rebuild territory. Change the oil to Tranzmax Z, I used to use it in in my EL T5 and while expensive ($65 for 4 litres) it improved the shift quality and made it a hell of a lot quieter.

Cool well i might try that sounds like itlll be woth the money. so 4lts is all u need?

also just read bout tranzmax z but says its for auto trans. does it matter?

4 litres is what you have to buy, their fill capacity is 1.9 litres from memory.

Ford run and recommend auto trans fluid to make the shift "feel" better for the average joe who doesn't want to put up with the slightly noisier and harder cold changes.
