Default au xr8 5 speed into 6cyl

Hey guys, im n the final stages of getting all my bits and pieces together for my conversion, but afteer doing a few seqarches on conversions, somene mentioned the xr8 box is different to a 6 cyl? Something about input splines?

Will i have any issues, other than the obvious bellhousing swap? i'll have the tailshaft to suit, so the back end is fine. One would think the spline on the input shaft, if different would simply mean needing to change the clutch to an xr8 clutch??

you should be able to fit an AU XR8 clutch to the 6cyl flywheel. and the gearbox should be a T5Z, which is a little better than a normal T5.

I thought the input splines were only different on the autos, not the manuals. A call to FTG in Melbourne, or Aussie Car Recyclers in Brisbane should get you an answer.

The input shafts on a V8 5 speed are longer you would need to swap it for a 6 cylinder input shaft and change the bell housing to a 6 cylinder im not sure on the rear extension housing the yokes in the tail shaft have the same amount of teeth so no issues using an xr8 manual tailshaft.

wouldnt make any difference as the v8 block is shorter than a 6 the shifter will be under the stereo surround. input splines will be the same.

ACR have no manual bits for the AU whatsoever. A mob in Sydney has a conversion kit, but i dont need the whole kit. Is it a big job to change the input shaft?? what sort of $$ would i be looking at?

And the flywheel is the number one thing im having issues sourcing. will i have to bite the bullet and go to (UGH!) ford?? :S

On a side note, anyone have any ideas on the tremec t5 gear ratios? have tried a search in the forums, but it came up blank :S

Looks like i may have to do what i originally planned, just jump at the parts as they come up bit by bit and eventually complete the set... one day!

Input shaft should be no biggy to swap undo the 4 bolts on the nosecone pry it from the main housing and slide the nosecone off the shaft, twist the input shaft 45 degress or so and pull outwards slightly might need more of a turn then it wil come out there is a bearing and thin cog the will come out thats it. You will need a 6 cylinder nosecone around 100 bucks new from ford and the inputshaft no idea on price sorry, New flywheel for 6 cylinder from ford at trade was around 110 bucks last time i bought one for mine about 2 years ago. no idea on the ratios tho for the tremec sorry.
