Default Clunking noise from the back from reversing

I have an EBII 340,000 kms. It's making clunking noise from the back of the car when reversing. Anyone encountered a similar problem before?

Mine clunks from the rear when changing gear under high revs, might be a similar problem?

i get it occasionaly as well, i reakon its the uni joints or diff. problem with my car is that is only done 156,000k's though!

How hard are you reversing?

My best bet would be Uni joints, but it could be diff or even axle tramp if there is info missing in your first post.

I just got my diff. bearing changed last few weeks by a ford specialist. So shouldn't be diff. How do I check uni?

I just checked the Haynes Repair Manual and looks like it's the Universal Joint since the clunking also happens when I am picking up at a traffic light. Will take it to a mechanic, anyone ever fixed this and how much should I expect to pay?

Not alot, it's a fairly simple task.

You can do it yourself with the right tools.

pull the tailshaft out with the yoke attached (should be around 8 bolts attaching it to the diff, the other end just slides out of the transmission)

Put the tailshaft in a vice (not too tight or you'll put dints in the shaft),

pull the ring spring thing out with a pair or pointy pliers, get a hammer and a punch, knock the uni joints out (can get a bit tricky, don't loose your cool, just keep beating away until they come out)

When you tap the new ones in, be gentle and make sure the rolling pins (inside of the uni, stuck there by grease) don't come loose and fall out, tap them in evenly and gently.
put in the new ring spring things,

and whack it back in the car.
