.
I'm thinking of fitting a full instrument Fairmont/Fairlane or XR dash to my wagon but as it has the Tickford LPG dual fuel setup I'm not sure. Would one of these dashes work with a Tickford dual fuel setup where the gas tank is hooked to the fuel gauge and shows DTE for the LPG as well as the petrol and will I need to change anything to get the oil and amp guages working? Has anyone done this switch before? Bushbasher

I've just decided not to do it on mine. I've always wanted to, but the cost is too prohibitive for the one extra functional gauge. GK

low series has speedo, tacho fuel and battery gauge IIRC?
XR/Fairmont has speedo, tacho, fuel, battery and oil pressure. As has been said, Fairmont shows DTE in the MDC which is a seperate part of the dash (have to have a full Fairmont dash to fit it). XR shows DTE in the LCD of the cluster.

XR has oil pressure, volts, Tacho, Speedo, Fuel & Temp So really, the volts is the only additional extra function that is worthwhile, and you can pick up an electronic oil pressure gauge with sending for around the $100 mark. A much cheaper option than an XR cluster at around $150, plus around the same again to get VDO to set the KMs from your old cluster, plus the $50 or so for the pressure sender, and another $20 for a long 27mm socket to install the send unit.

Ok, so let me see if I've got this straight, The Fairmont dash is out with no DTE so it's XR dash or nothing and I'll need to change the oil pressure sender if I fit the XR dash. Cool, that's not too much drama but I still don't know if the fuel gauge and DTE will work with the LPG system....anyone????
And I agree, the full instrument dash looks alot better than some extraneous gauge hanging out of the dash somewhere. The 2 extra gauges do make a difference to me as well, especially the volts because I run an Engel in the back straight off the battery and also the spotties when travelling so I like to keep an eye on the power level and what the alternator is doing plus I just like the look of a full instrument dash over the base one. As for resetting the odometer, I probably wouldn't bother, especially if it's one with around the same ks' as mine. Bushbasher

fairmont dash is out unless you want to fit the WHOLE dash.
on the 'monts, DTE is separate from the cluster etc. XR dash's are physically the same as yours. just the cluster is different. so yeah. xr = easier.

Fuel gauge and DTE will still work as it is now if changed to an xr dash.

I will be putting a black Fairmont dash in my Forte some time in the near future. I already have the new dash sitting on my bedroom floor. Stav can testify to that lol. Also the air con on a XR dash in cable controlled and a Fairmont dash has a little solinoid to control the air con, as its operated via the MDC.
The buttons on the dash will need to be rewired to fit the loom of the MDC. There is some stuffing around but it can be done.
