Default Custom Instrument Cluster Design

hey guys,

got a bit bored last night, and decided to try a design for my instrument cluster... a hour and a half later on the computer, i had this!

The thing i want to know is, is it actually possible to print it out and replace it with the standard one. If so what material do i print it on. cause i think the ford one is a thin plastic.

ill also use those blue LEDs for the background lighting

please feel free to comment.

Yeah I like it mate, nice and simple yet effective with white increments and the flares.

Printing...contact fairmont1998 as I'm pretty sure he made custom cluster faces for his EL. I forget what he did so when ya find out let us know!

Nah seriously i want the same for my EA. Does anyone know if you can get white cluster stickers for EA S. I did my own on my old XE GHIA in white and it looked sxxx hot, but EA cant be painted as they are backlit as opposed to the XE which was lit from the front of the cluster. : PM Sent.

Interesting idea. I'm just thinking that it might be against the law. If you print it out and the distance between each 10km/h increment is different to the standard one, you will have no accurate way to judge what speed you are really going and will in turn render your dash cluster useless...

that had crossed my mind, but however they are scanned images of the original faces (i put them all together or the image that i posted, "for illustration purposes only"). i didn't delete and recreate any of the increments, i simply changed the hue and saturation of some parts and added some sunlight effects. when i do print them out, i'll just scale the image to the correct size of the original. doing it this way i think should keep the increments the same.

correct me if im wrong...

I read about this on ford mods, even designed my own for the wagon

But what you need to do is have 6 pieces or it wont fit in the cluster, i have the PSD file somewhere on my laptop for all 6 - Actual size as well!

If any of you want the file Pm me your Msn / E-mail addy and i will send them over

Legally, you aren't even required to have a speedometer in your car. Some cars used to have them as an option.
The speed you travel at is your own responsibility, regardless of if your speedo reads accurate or not.
Remember, ADRs say that a speedo (When fitted) must be within 10% tolerance of the actual speed traveled. This is the rule when the car is manufactured, but after that it all goes out the window... :P

Nice designs anyway... i'd like to do somehting similar at some stage.

inkjet printer, plus matte finish photo paper (the heavy/thick stuff). Specifically I used Kodak Matte photo paper in 165gsm / 200micron weight.
