VX/Y? Commodore washed off the Bruce Highway south of Proserpine.
Note- They don't float too well.

Paddock near Proserpine

VR/S? Commodore also washed off the Bruce Highway.

Cheers

Does anyone have any of the Burdekin or Haughton rivers near Ayr. We are meant to be flying into Townsville and heading down to Ayr for a few days next week. So hopefully the highways will be reopened by then.

It was all over the news up here.
Unless anymore rain falls (100+mm) they should drop fairly quickly.
High tides didn't help the situation this week.

You might be lucky, Townsville north is open, but south is still closed...

And yes even up near Cairns/Tablelands we've had enough too, it can stop for a few weeks!

Dan..

So is the road washed out or is there just too much water? Does anyone know when the highway will be reopened. We are flying in on Wed and were planning on heading to Ayr either Wed night or Thurs morning. Any chance it will reopen before then if there isnt too much more rain?

The roads are falling apart everywhere at the moment, it's not just the floodways.
Our roads in Bowen are bad at the best of times... Potholes everywhere at the moment.

Bruce Highway is closed southbound of Townsville at:

- Palm Creek
- Giru
- Haughton River
-etc

they are quite substanially flooded and more rain is predicted for next week, hence i cant see it clear up too soon, even if u may get through wednesday, you may get stuck on the return again

I was supposed to be barra fishing in Proserpine this weekend with some mates from Townsville.... Lucky for me, i changed my flights on Thursday with some inside info, that everything would be cut off come the weekend!!!
At least the dams are full up there... Now we just need Premier Pete to build that pipeline and steal 95% of it hahah

Those photos are great..... Its very lucky that there hasnt been much/any property lost at this stage.

Jeffb, Is that the hospital bridge in 2nd last pic?

An answer to someone's question above - no the roads and bridges aren't usually washed out; it's usually just a lot of water. There is always millions of dollars of "minor" road damage though..... every wet season.

See the photo of our magnificent Ross River dam. They lowered the spillway due to structural integrity problems with the base of the earth retaining walls. Work started 2 years ago. Currently the dam only holds 36% of it's normal capacity.

Hopefully they'll get it fixed before any more wet seasons go by.

Ps I haven't seen this mornings weather report. It's supposed to be raining all next week as well.
