Default BDO bans ' Aussie flag '

Just seen on the news the Big Day Out organizers have banned anyone from displaying the Aussie flag, worried it could start more racial fights. Soon the Aussie flag will be banned at every event and where does it stop! I think we should all give the Australian Government a big hand in congratulations for turning what once was the best country in the world, now into a place where an Aussie cant fly his/her nations flag proudly.

Ah the joy,
I went to BDO yesterday
and if people actually knew the proper
story and the big muck up the media makes you's
would understand.
Go onto the BDO website and read the article on the main
page.
The reason as they have said no is because of safety issues.
They have also said no BIG flags which is understandable.

It is also to ensure everyone can see properly, can you imagine
being in the back mosh and having people everywhere with massive
flags up, would be impossible to see.

It was also supposed to be on Australia Day but they moved it as they didnt want trouble... The BDO organisers are quoted as saying the flag promotes racial violence and offends Aboriginies who apparently view the flag and Australia Day as quote "Invasion Day". Give me a break...

A Bit OT but how was the BDO, and which bands did you see.

The Australian flag offends the other races in Australia....

Everyone should proudly display the flag of their country of birth, especially Australia.

If theyre going to ban flags for safety reasons, the cricket, footy, car racing, the olympics, just about any sport will be targeted, yet they dont seem to have any trouble with it.

Have you been to a big day out?
Have you seen how many people there are moshing
there, now imagine lots of them holding big flags, yes there
will be danger.

How can you compare watching footy to being in a mosh with
excess of 10,000?

Why would i be holding a flag in a mosh of 10000?

No, but some people would.
Which instantly creates problems in such big crowds.

Here's an exert of what was posted on the BDO website:

With all this in mind and the aim to create a happy, peaceful MUSICAL event, organisers would like to request that fans please leave large flags at home. The substantial increase of flags brought to large public events such as the Big Day Out is becoming excessive and has created complex issues including but not limited to sight line problems.

This is simply a request, not a command.

I heard on the news this morning that they didnt ban it as such, they are just strongly recommending that no one bring one because of the potential to start a race riot.
They also said that legally you cannot ban a flag at a public event.

VENOMOUS - I understand what your saying, all i witnessed was a 10 sec news report that said the Aussie flag was banned at the BDO because they didnt want any racial riots starting and my thoughts were here we go again, another thing we cant do. As you,ve shown, the information goes further due to health and safety for others, but i still believe it goes into the racial side first...my 2 cents.

Ah k,
Well i think it's stupid if theres any racial
spurs over it. There is no need for there to be.

Anyway the media will always have a way to twist
things around.

And also they havent actually banned the flag, just requested
it isn't bought in

I reckon it a load of bullsh*t, our forefathers went to war under our flag and won the right to display it proudly. And instead our govenment wants to make it illegal to fly it. It our country and we should be proud to fly it. Can't people see that! Where can we fly our flag if we can't fly it in our own country. If people don't like the australian way then please leave as all us aussies get along just fine.

Actually the government is condeming the BDO organisers, not supporting them.

You dont see the issue in an event that attracts thousands of impressionable young people that they are banned from carrying the Aussie flag as it is a symbol of racism? I believe they have done some backpeddling now and claimed being misquoted yadda yadda yadda (they sound like a well known Shiek at this rate...)

Its just a symbol,a flag dosent make a country.
Half my ancestors came here in chains for fighting a certain country for their freedom, and that countries flag makes up half of ours, and so for me it holds nothing special.
Not a symbol of racism, but i feel its a flag that wont unite the WHOLE country..
