Should I hit him?

My brother called me tonight with a worried tone in his voice and told me that he had crashed my car. He was worried because I had told him if he crashed my car I would kill him (only joking of course). He said that some kids had run out in front of him and he had to go off the road to miss them.

I was angry because in a week I am meant to be driving my car in my cousins weding as the bridal car (....also I was/is drunk ...haha).
A minute ago I looked at the car and the damage and it dose'nt seem to be that bad (well it still resembles an xr8 anyway) as it seems to be just the front bumper. I will check the car tommorow for any further damage (when I am sober...haha).

Now I am thankful that he made it home and he is ok. Just minutes before he called me I heard the news that one of my high school friends is now a quadrapledic from a road accident a few weeks ago. It realy makes a bit of panel damage seem insignificant. It makes it hard to stay mad at him anyway.

At least he had the guts to tell you pretty much straight away. Just get him to fix it, and it will all be sweet.

He did the right thing by telling you, and trust me he would have been crapping himself when he told you.

I put the first dent in the bf's ute, and i swear i thought i was gonna cop it bad, but he was really understanding which was great, (he was actually trying not to laugh at me bawling my eyes out) he said "getting angry with you isn't going to fix the ute, plus now you cant hang crap on me if i dent one of your cars"
He reckons he's glad he didnt do the first dent because he seems to think I'd never let him live it down... hehehe

So no dont hit him, i think his guilty conscience is punishment enough

look at it this way

he wasnt driving like a ********, it wasnt his fault, he didnt write off the car and nobody was killed

just settle for having the damage fixed

if he had been driving like a ********, you'd have my full permission to bash the crap outta him

Hahahah True comment. But yeah, glad he wasn't hurt. And it's only a car. He did the right by you and good on him.

No. Don't hit him.

Based on what he said, he was driving properly and safely. Children are often unpredictable and therefore as a driver, he had to take heavy evasive action to avoid hitting one of them.

Secondly, instead of taking the attitude, "He'll never notice", he respected you and your property enough to say, "I made a dent, I'm packing my undies etc."

There was a good deal of responsibility shown by your brother and therefore, you should honour that.

Sounds like he took the best action he could. Imagine he was calling you to tell you he'd just hit a kid in your car!!
A car can always be fixed - DON'T HIT HIM!!

Yeah I was only joking about hitting him. When he called me and told me about it I said to him it didnt sound that bad and we will worry about it in the morning but he kept saying 'nah man, it's pretty bad' . As I was out all night I got a bit paranoid that I would come home to find the front end missing or something but it was just a bit (well a lot ) of paint. He has only had his licence for a short while and I think that this is the first emergency situation he has been in on the road so hopefuly this experiance will help him next time he finds trouble.

Good stuff. At least he and the children he didnt hit are ok! Could have been a lot worse. You could have gotten the phone call at 4am from the cops like I did the week before Christmas saying "This is constable xxx speaking. Im ringing to let you know that your partner has been involved in a serious accident. He lost control of his car at 100kmh and drove into a pole. He is on the way to hospital now."

I think your brother sounds like a decent bloke, and probably took some skill to avoid hitting the kids. Good on him.

I feel sorry for your brother simply because he didn’t try to bullS*** you or cover it up. He obviously did what was best in the situation and I bet that he feels terrible about your car.

Accidents happen, that’s life. Cars can be fixed and brothers can be bashed later on for other things.

Nah, don't hit him, been there done that. I know how bad I felt when I had to confront my Bro with keys only. At least he rang you.

When I was 17 (long, long time ago) & Bro 18, I wrote off his first car, a Mitsibishi Colt (2nd hand) which he had bought only 3 weeks early.

I was being a ******** and rolled it. He was pretty understanding as well as pi~~ed off as you could imagine. I had lent him half the money for it so needless to say, I didn't ask for my loan back.

After a couple of weeks he thanked me as he and his mates cut the roof off and turned it into a paddock basher. Went better than ever.

If my brother done that to my car, he would probably make up some BS story and make me want to punch him in the head.

Telling the truth is better then telling a lie or not telling at all and having to worry about a guilty concience (sp).

That's why I always tell the truth, when I do something wrong. Like when I smoked weed the first time, I told my mum. (Although dad chucked a hissy fit)

panels can be fixed but people cannot be replaced, and atleast he rang you before he got home which would have been pretty hard to do.

give him a bit of physical abuse to let him know that its all good and your okay about it...just make sure you laugh it off afters.....but yer as every1 said....its all good if he fixes it. and at least he was honest with it.

Make sure he pays for the damage to the standard the car was before the accident...
Let that be a lesson, dont loan your car to anyone, unless they have the cash in bank to replace the car/pay the excess and are responsible enough to pay without you asking.
