Default American Hot Rod

For all those who have Foxtel/Austar and watch this show, I have a question.

I don't get to watch this show much, but lately when I have had the chance I have wonered were a guy called Charlie got to (have seen him recently on Overhaulin'). Anyway tonight when I got home I caught the last 30 seconds of an episode (tonight 6.30pm) were he left. Can anyone tell me the reason he left and if in fact he has gone to another show or car builder?

Cheers,

Andrew

Charlie left Boyd Codington to work for Chip Foose. Chip originially worked for Boyd and there is some real bad blood between the two. (Probably cos Chip is twice the car builder Boyd is) That episode you saw was the one where Charlie told Boyd he was going, it got pretty heated. From the body langauge between Charlie and Boyd's missus I think he was pluggin her.

Charlie left some time ago to go work with Chip Foose's organisation, who are obviously responsible for 'Overhaulin'.

EDIT: "Missed it by THAT much, sorry chief...won't happen again"

I got the impression it was a similar situation to when Mike got shafted out, for designing wheels for Chip Foose on Boyd's time (although maybe Charlie just got sick of Boyd...I missed that episode).

Charlie left of his own accord, I think Mike might have been pushed. What was the go with that guy, I think he was in an accident or something but what a freaker. Did that old metal fabricator die or what? I only caught the episode half way through.

charlie (and beetle) left boyd and they said they were sick of rushing all the work and no longer took pride in the work. they said chip would not push as hard and let them do their best. which is not quite the impression you get from overhaulin'. but I saw an episode of rides where chip was putting a vehicle together for the SEMA show and both charlie and beetle featured and influenced the paint side of the car.
mike was using boyds time and resources to do jobs for chip and boyd had to "let him go", which I suppose is understandable. I found it funny (in my own twisted way) that mike was picked up from boyds by bluebear, another ex-employee. it is interesting to see that the workers who leave, as opposed to those sacked, often return, for example al (the chassis expert) and thomas (fabrication) have both returned, maybe just to help out?
roy took ill and died, they dedicated about 20 min of an episode to pay respects, his photograph still sits in the workshop.

I swear the other day there was an episode that said that charlie wondered if boyd would have him back ????

And i wouldn't say Chip is twice the builder that boyd is, Chip is more of a designer than a builder where boyd is the oppisite.

Thanks for the replies guys. So leading on from that:

1. Were did Bluebear go to (sacked or quit?)

2. Who is Beetle? I can't remember him (or is that Mike's nickname?)

Cheers,

Andrew

I have seen Chip do more on a car in one episode of overhaulin' than I have seen Boyd do in the whole series of American Hot Rod. Granted neither of them are extremely hands on, perhaps Boyd was a little more before the shop started.

Boyd is like 6o and i bet he's earn't the right to sit back and let people who are much younger do the work for him, he started with nothing and is one of if not the most respected builder's in the states so he must have done alright in his day.

Mike was involved in a car accident a few years back with Greg (Boyd's son) where they were driving a car and it flipped. Mike lost his sense of smell and taste due to the severity of his accident. His mouth/jaw is being held together with the help of several screws and plates. Mike said that he is just now getting some movement and his sense of smell/taste back.

Bluebear left after having a dispute. Boyd and bluebear were going to build individual cars and drive them to a show. Whoever got there first would win the bet. Bluebear tried to cut corners and Boyd would pull him up on it. Bluebear quit becuase of it.

It has been mentioned that Charlie and Beetle (one of the guys in the body shop, almost liek Charlie's off sider) bith quit becuase of all the rush, rush, rush. And Charlies quote is "This is not how you build a car".

Another person to go is Mike, the guy with the bad lips. He was fired beacuse Dwain had heard he was designing wheels for Chip. (In Tuesdays epsiode of overhauling you see mike help cut the wheel for the car. The car was a GTO)

Also to go was Scott. One of the main fabricators. He left for personal reasons "to find new challanges"

Other people to go was AL (the chassis builder) and Thomas (The swedish fellow). Both of them have come back. Maybe Boyd is getting desperate for personal, considering the people that he has had come and go.

Big Roy unfurtunately passed away and you could see that deeply affected Lee. The bad thing is that from that time the sheetmetal is always holding up the project build.

Yea its funny that he seemed slow and fell asleep all the time but he seemed to get the job done..I cracked up when they sacked one of Roy's off siders for not ringing in sick...She said that one of the girls answered the phone.. If she said one of the guys answered, someone MAY have covered for her?..
Roy got ****sed off and said when ever he gets a good one they sack them...
Her replacement [Lee ??] is funny though....
IMO Dwain is half the issues there...Doesn't communicate with his staff and bags them...Plus the time to build cars...
I must say I cringe when I see them cut up a near perfect model T ford though!!!

well that filled in a heap of gaps for me. i dont get to see it that often but did see the overhauling episode where charlie was painting a car for chip and chip had a cardboard cutout of boyd. was **** funny. charlie comes across as a really nice bloke, having to put up with boyds **** probably pushed him out.

luv these types of show s even the misses likes to watch them every now again,
as for charlie he was offered by chip to paint a car for a show called the riddler ,from memory i think they won the event.
the shows always backdating cant keep track

as for boyds misses for sure charlie was doin her they way she cried and carried on, poor old boyd cant preform hahahaha

dwanye is a tool he seriously has problems ,if boyd got rid of him i reckon the shop would work better and not under such tight deadlines .

might send an email off to boyd see if he needs any workers.

Coddington is all about the money! He went broke in the late 80's/early 90's when he sunk too much capital into wheel business no1, even lost the rights to his name! He just sold his present wheel shop on an episode the other week. The cars he builds on the show probably don't represent his main customer base, (rich retired white guy's) more built to a dedline for someone who wants it done and doesn't have to ask how much? The people who leave the shop usually cant put up with the deadlines/work load/long hours/weekend work or Dwayne! Boyd seems to want his employees to look at things his way, if he tells a customer the car will be done in 8 weeks then you will do it in 8 weeks. He doesn't like Foose because he started at Boyd's, saw he could do it (better) and left to start his own company.

From what i recall, it was BYO frame and let Boyd Coddington fund everything else you're gonna put on and in the rod...

A deal like that, i would have let boyd make sweet love to the thing if that's what he wanted.

Bluebear had rocks in his head, not to mention a questionable nickname.

I agree, a custom built rod, paid for by boyd, built in company time, also while being paid by boyd, obviously painted by boyd and all he had to do was follow everyone elses advice on safety.....no it's not rocket science.

I read on the web page that Dwayne is actually a nice guy but plays it up for the camera. if that is true he is a great actor! The shows we are getting here (on foxtel) are about 2 yrs old.

Bluebear was a drop kick. To have an oppitunutity to build your own hot rod at Boyd's, with Boyd's workers and more importantly Boyd's money. Why would you argue.

It was funny though that by the time Bluebear left Discovery Channel had to keep censoring his *** because of to much crack.
