Hey All,
Just as I had saved up enough money to get the XR lowered my Diff starts to clunk and wine. I took it into Ford for a service and to get the rear door lock fixed. They tell me that the diff needs to be sent away and rebuilt. Who has had this done and what did it cost you? its a 3.45 LSD from an AU II XR6. Cheers |

yup, about $1000 to keep the original gearing (but why would you want to?) and around $1500 with a new ratio. Close to $2K for new ratio and adding LSD, not that you need that.

Interesting you say $2000 Casper. I was quoted $1550 plus frieght or installation. But $500 for installation seems a bit steep.

Very true, I was talking live axel. The joy of a wagon I guess, without the comfort of IRS.

i rebuild diffs at work for a basic rebearing it costs $850 and for lsd that includes re shimming the centre for a gear change it is $1400 including new bearings and for an lsd conversion with new gear set and bearings costs $2000 strange how the life of diffs can vary so much my bosses car has done nearly 200,000ks and not one noise but last week i rebuilt a diff in a ba wagon that had done 35,000 ks figure that out

Haven't been given a quote yet, the car only has 90K on it.
I will be getting a quote done in the new year. The Diff was making strange noises when I first got the car (around 75K), and I later found out that the previous owner use to tow with it. |

There are 2 noises one is a bearing type noise and the other is a distinct clunk when you come to a stop and put your foot on the clutch.

Mine has a failed bearing, gonna cost $300 in parts including oil, labour free.
BTW if you use Castrol SAF XA 80W/140 diff oil it already has the sturaco additive in it. |
