Yeah I want one..but I shouldn't; money should be spent elsewhere really.

I just got the PS2 chipped so that should last a little while.

I can remember when I brought my PS1 for $750...LOL

dont be fooled the CPU is just a glorified 3.2ghz processor

floating point = half precision of a double
basically allows more precise data to be stored...it gets more complicated

1 vmx vector unit per core = glorified way of saying dual core..tri(or triple) core whatever sony are using

everything else can be found on your PC at home...only difference is the PS3 runs only ps3 software/os...your PC runs heaps of crap

anyways for that money i hope no one buys it...the info above is just so when u do ask the salesman to clarify and he dont say the same or similar he dont no..so dont be fooled by fancy words

id be happy to clarify more things just ask

just offering assistance to save your wallet

Based on the fact the X-box 360 beat them to a release date by 8 months Sony have some sucking up to do & a $999 release price wont cut it.

As with the PS2/x-box. PS2 was first so the x-box had some catching up to do.
Shafting people 1grand or close to it is NOT the way to go.
I bought a ps2 on release for $750 (now $199 in shops) and the same will eventually happen with the price of ps3. I hope i can wait til the price drops. I said the same with the ps2 but lacked self control & paid full price.

What junk mail had the $999 price & what did it include? I heard the price was going to be $100 more than the best x-box package available (premium @ $649) so $750 to $800 is all they should be asking.

For the top spec one here it is predicted to cost 499 pounds, which is a rip off if you ask me, but that hasnt stopped me putting a down payment on one i think we get it before you? but i am not sure will it be a global launch or will it be launched periodically throughout the world?

I think Australia is supposed to get it the same time as the rest of the PAL countries get it for once.

I will be holding off for a while tho until the price drops. Hopefully the 360 will drop a bit when the PS3 comes out altho I will probably end up getting all 3 consoles again...

not that many games make use of your SLI setup yet though do they ? Nice setup though i must say. I built myself a mid range system 6 months ago when the old one fried itself - and in all honesty i hardly even use it now. I just sit on this POS laptop in the loungeroom and use the wireless connection to my cable.. yes, yes i am lazy.

The system i built is an AMD SanDiego 3800+ 2gb DDR, 256mb 6600GT Video, 80gb primary, 300gb storage & video drive, triple fan low noise 600w PSU (old psu blew up in other pc, thought i'd improve a little ). But as i said, just don't use it!

I'll be buying an xbox 360 next week, dunno about the PS3. Live for today i say.

That launch price is too high, NZD$1299 plus the games are $140 each its just stupid.

I'll get one but not at those prices.

i'll probably get one after xmas.... or maybe even a little later than that..
from screenshots ive seen it looks AWESOME

IMO consoles are so much better than pc's IN THAT they're running software specifically designed for the video / sound capabilities of the machine...... i havent had a games pc for years for this reason...

optimisation is a good thing!

since the game doesnt have to be designed to run on every pc/combination of hardware made over the last 5 years

dont let the price fool you, sony have won uphill battles many a time even with their hardware being more expensive. the games are what win it at the end of the day and so far nothing on the 360 has made me jump into the car and full throttle it to the shops to buy one :

i had a sony cd-rom - it destroyed 3 of my discs, must have thought it was a cd-burner..
had a sony cd changer (home theatre type, 10 years ago) it failed twice
had a sony DVcam - 6 years ago, cost $3000+ at the time, the tape feeding mechanism failed 3 times and was generally pretty useless

so as you can understand i'd prefer to stay away from them. having said that i've had a ps1 before and that was great

No, I work in a gaming lounge, all we do is play games.. all i've done my entire life is play games.. and gaming didn't make me fat.. alcohol did

Nah.. i'm not fat anyway.. but yer.. gaming doesn't make kids fat.. a game can't make a kid do anything.. can't make him be violent or kill someone, can't make him eat more or be lazy..

Stop blaming the games and try blaming the parents.. they're the ones RESPONSIBLE for the kids..

My girl plays heaps of games.. she also plays tennis twice a week, plays soccer, loves riding her bike, and plays outside nearly every after noon.. but when she's inside, she likes to play games rather than watch TV..
