Let me guess? On take off you're getting wheel spin, and instead of flying off the line you're sitting and spinning while the other car passes you.

My advice, dont put ur foot all the way down. Theres a thread on acelleration techniques. Look it up.

Being the factory diff ratio in a stock AU ( non xr ) , im thinking your on about your car is a slug in 1'st gear until it hits very high rpm . Im not to sure on the stock AU ratio's , I remember years ago the old borg warner diffs for the ford 6 cylinders , they were a majority of 3.25 ratio diffs , nowerdays i think the xr standard is a 3.45 , most people have gone to a 3.9 ratio i think , allthough from the past ( though i haven't tried it yet in an AU ) , i was a big fan of the 4.11 ratio years ago , made any bomb take off like it had something decent under the hood ! ...lol, although lost alot of top speed .

One way to fix the 1st gear slug.
Fit a bigger stall converter
Then it's wheelspin city ... but getting the launch right ... it'll rocket off the line.

Actually the problem is the BTR 4 speed auto's 2.39 first gear ratio.

The 3.08 diff in the Forte makes it worse.

I know what that is like ... the ute is always a slug off the line.
God knows what diff the ute is running ... all i know is it is non-LSD.
And my auto transmission is tired from being overworked.

First gear in the Mechan1kmobile is: 2.39

Final drive ratio in Mechan1kmobile is: 3.23

God bless your auto, son.

LOL ... thanks for that.
God bless the oil cooler .... it's the one thing that is keep the transmission still running ... although the trans is now haemoraging on the driveway a bit .... it does need another service again ... damn seals/gaskets always need replacing.

When the cash is available ... it will be time for a new box ... and a stronger one at that.

Iv got a 99 forte, why is it, I can spin boths wheels turning left? Infact the whole backend can slide out doing so. I understand when I turning right, Iv got the right wheel spinning.. naturally.

Is there any chance, some Fortes came with LSD, or is it something else?

depends how much slip angle there is .... I can get both to slide ... but it depends how hard i hook it too.

Your diff is a 3.08, that & the crappy first gear are the problem as Jonbay's stated. Problem is you can't fit the wagon or Xr gears as they have a different housing to the forte diff. There is a diff thread on this & I am still trying to find out which gears fit. Apparently commodore gears fit, which model who knows. None of the so called diff experts have been able to tell me.
