Exclamation Push Button Starter!!!!!!!!!!

Has anyone done a mod to put a push button starer on their AU's.

If so, does anyone know of a link for the schematic or something that might help me out.

Also, does anyone have an engine cover for sale to suit an AU Fairmont V8 (i think they take the same engine cover as the EF's did but not sure)

Cheers

LG - you know me too well. Yes, I have done it. And re-done it. And now it works, and it uses a relay, so it's safe. Basically, You have to cut the wire that goes to your starter, and hook the ignition side of it to the relay, then relay to switch, otherside of switch back to blue wire to starter. Power to relay comes from iginition source (that way it can only be started with the key in, and this also means it passes the BEM security check) The key will turn all the way to start, but doesn't do anything, so you just have it in the run position, press the starter button, and all is good. I used a 60AMP starter button from supercheap (about $10 or $15 IIRC).

I also have a second switch installed so that I can turn the bypass off so that it also just starts with a key (for the missus, and services etc).

I'll see about getting some photos and the exact coloured wiring and loom to get it from, over the weekend.

Excellent, would it be the same for earlier model cars?

Why would it bypass the BEM Security Check again JC? I thought you were cutting the wire on the ignition side of it? Shouldn't there be a seperate cable/loom leading to the BEM?

LG - you could get power straight from the battery, wire up the button and into the ignition circuit, but the car wouldn't start because the key hasn't been inserted and therefore the BEM check would fail. The way I have done it, it uses the built-in security by still using the key, but the button activates the starter instead of the key (the key is only there to satisfy the security, and because of the way I've wired it, it powers the relay as well).

NED - Yes.

Rocketman - No worries. Only costs $150 for the kit I have put together! LOL.

Ahh ok, I think I was thinking of something different, like a kill switch or something.

Chuck up some pics when you get a chance. ;)

easier again for earlier cars as you dont have the security check, just make sure you use a relay, otherwise the switch may end up welding itself closed and you'll burn out your starter moter and cause an electrical fire to your battary.

1tuffute - yes, just like the GT one. The actual GT button is around $200 from Ford, but is wired in much the same way.

NAXR6 - that's why I have a second switch to go back to key start for the missus etc. I never get bored of it!

One of the blokes I work with performed something similar on his VN... Except using his cigarette lighter as the starter button. I borrowed it for a week while mine was having its work done, and I never EVER got sick of it. Its great!

OK, I have a pic now, so will load it up. It's nothing special though.

As far as remote start goes, you can't do remote start on any smart lock or smartshield falcon (So ED onwards(?)). You need the key in the ignition to enable the BEM to allow the car to be started. So great idea in theory, and of course I have thought of doing it, but just not ****bile without some serious re-wiring of the whole car's electrical system.

Pic as promised. It's mounted to the left of the steering column, sort of on the flat part between my left knee and the cluster.
