Default Which football code is your favourite?

Is soccer a growing threat or is it just flavour of the month?

FF

It's flavour of the month FF...$$$$ is the issue,Football/soccer clubs ( no pokies etc) arn't enough to support from the grass roots like nrl/aru/afl have.
Lowy and admin need to get this resolved then this will help keep players which before would leave the game for others as mentioned. This will build the local National comp well as well as overseas players added as draw cards.
Since making the cup this can slowly happen now,I have waited 20+yrs for this and I'm finally seeing the foundations being built !

Watch off/on the other codes but not much.

Rugby league, i acnt stand the way soccer players hug and climb all over one another when a goal is scored. Its like they have just discovered a cure for the flu.And the way the guy who scores the goal he has to quickly take his shirt off and run 400 metres before all of his team mates mob him.

AFL then Aussie Rules then Aerial ping pong. Soccer is played by heaps of little kids 6-10 and then they seem to switch to another code! Probably don't like running around like a headless chook for 90 mins and STILL being no score.

Real Football for me. People seem to quickly forget that That there are more people registered in Australia playing soccer than any other football code. At least it is played everywhere else in the world AFL will never be played around the world like soccer and will slowly die off around AUS if the soccer continues to grow the way it has.

Must say it has been a long time coming. A lot of the credit has to go to Lowy And O'neil for the raqpid transformation of the game and not just Hiddink i think.

Man this isn't going to last long...lol

And just wait until the Vics get on, the results will change a bit.

All I can say his that if you find two teams running straight into each other enjoyable then good luck to you.

Get a soccer, rugby player to play AFL.....soccer guys espicially wouldn't last a quarter.

Soccer should be classified as a water sport, right up there with diving:

BRING IT ON...jk:

That being said, I will watch rubgy, soccer, lawn bowls if Australia is playing.

If any code is going to suffer, it'll be league or union, AFL is growing, however, the poor publicity and generally little appeal of league outside its heartland mean it won't grow past NSW and QLD. Union relies on the international games, its grassroots levels are horrendously poor.

EDIT: AFL does have overseas leagues, although they aren't huge, oh and also, they aren't made up of solely expats.

How much further can AFL grow? There is only one border in this fine country of ours, and it aint going any further then that. And having overseas leagues doesnt mean a thing, they are full of players who can't make it in any of the local sports (same as league in alot of countries before you start with the comebacks). Rugby League, don't get me started on, the administrators are so messed it up, i doubt it will ever expand. Most likely it will always be a primarily QLD and NSW comp (in that order out: ). People have been predicting the game to fall apart for decades, here and in northern England, but it's still going strong. Soccer, as much as I prefer other sports, will only grow to the point where it will replace AFL as the dominant sport in this country, it's only a matter of time unfortunately. Go to the high schools now and you'll see a new generation of kids who don't want to get a bruise, not want physical contact which means dont want to play football. Alternative? Soccer

in the seventies i'd watch the english first division on ABC and buy "shoot" magazine religously. most of my peers were the same and many back yard games were fought using trees as goal posts. my late teens became the "league" era i think more to impress rather than enjoy. now i love watching league on fox and being involved in tipping but get a good open flowing, attacking football game where you can't use your hands and there's nothing better.
i'll watch a wallabies game if there's nothing else happening and as for AFL i just go and find something else to do.

favourite 'footy' code is League,
the game is more exciting to watch than any other.
Union has too much kicking back and forth and field goals, but i still love it.
Afl and soccer are about even, both can be great to watch but i dont get into it as much.

although im currently on the soccer bandwagon ;)
