Default focus surging!

the latest results are in for may car sales and focus has overtaken the dull astra and closing in on the mazda3 but still a fairway from the boring corolla.

may figures:
corolla: 3750
mazda3: 2918
focus: 2320
astra: 1842

price and a name that you could drag through the mud and it still comes out sparkling. they are cheap, but they are one of the most basic cars on the road. at least with the focus you can feel some sort of passion when they were designing it. but the corolla is one of the most mundane vehicles to drive. its just a average car.

And a brand that has been a reliable performer for over 30 years. There are parents who owned corolla's who happily recommend them to their grown kids. No one grew up with a Focus. Not exciting, but a safe buy...especially for people who aren't into driving.

Focus will grow as the name gets known. Laser was a household name, Focus is not..yet

There is an upside to it. At least when you drive by, you still get looks...hehehe...

I drove past a WRX and the guy was checking out the car.

Focus is best of the four. Only thing that separates 3 and Focus is styling. I would've bought either but I like the look of the Focus. It looks much spunkier and I like the steeply raked rear end of the hatch. Glad that Ford didn't go with the sudden-drop rear ends of most hatches.

Having previously owned a TS Astra I was really disappointed that its successor came with same 1.8 with a cam-belt. One of the reasons I switched to Focus was to get away from a cam-belt driven engine. An expensive replacement and worst if it breaks. The rear of the five door hatch is horrid but the 3door is a stunner but with 1.8 engine. If the 3door came with at least 2.0 chain-cam driven engine I would've gone with another Astra.

Corrolla was never considered. Its a rental car. People are still hugely influenced by Toyota's reputation.

Anyway, I'm not brand loyal to anybody. I'll buy it if its good for me. If you're brand fanatic you only lock yourself out of a really good product.

Likewise, at the local Maccas after coming out of drivethru I'm crawling through the carpark and saw a group of young lads in a group glancing. As I was going past them they were whisper debating "Is it a turbo?" "I dunno!" "Shhhh he can hear us" LMAO

do you reckon a sedan lowered with 17 inchers could have the same street cred as a hot hatch?

Well the sedan looks its own part. Lowered on some nice rims will really set it off.

17s? they look far too small for the sedan, 18s would look the part, especially the ford factory 18s they sell in the uk/europe. the ones in your pic.

I've got a confession to make. YES I once owned a Corolla and it too was red. But it was boring in comparison to the Focus. I'd rather my current red car any day!

BTW I think 'Wheels' has the Focus in the Top 10 Sales for the Month in the current edition.

Corolla is advertised at $19,990 driveaway sedan or hatch, pre-April build, until end of June, so expect Corolla to finish off the year well

That means that the Focii will stand out in a sea of Corollas. Like a diamond in the rough ;)

When I was looking at a new car, I looked at the Corolla. To get the LX Focus features in a Corolla you have to get top of the range... The LX Focus is in the sweet spot when it comes to price and features.
