Question Skyline Takeoffs.

As of late i have noticed that every 2nd Skyline i have seen take off from a set of lights will hit the rev limiter in first (just to claify they werent racing me or anyone else). I don't understand why this is so, there is really no need to do it and purely no benefeit to it unless its to look "cool" but at best its annoying. I have asked many people about it but no-one seems to have any answers to it either so does anyone here know why or can make sense of it? :

It's because every second Skyline is being driven by a tryhard that has a need to prove how noisliy they can accelerate from a set of lights.

twin cam RB engines rev pretty cleanly. coupled with the fact that they are geared short and usually driven by young blokes wanting to show how tuf they are.......

Yeah i agree ive seen some RB's in action and they snap the tacho pretty quick but by the same token in my old capri it used to snap the tacho like nothing i have ever seen before with the MK 3 box and 3.27 diff gears and yet i could still manage to change that before it was anywhere near where a skyline would have its rev limiter at.

last night i seen the quickest r32 gtr ive ever seen plates were r32-gtr we were in a 80 zone so i thought id give it some stick and he dissapered when i was mid through second, he must of thought i was still at the lights.

I know the R32 skylines can rev to 8000rpm easy and still launch hard without destroying any diffs. :

Actually its quite funny around were I live most of the Skyline drivers are mature chaps in R32 and 33's and even i can 'beat' them taking off at the lights. That being, hell if you had a GTS-T and was under the age of 25, I bet you would take off from the lights fast too, but i do get some of the point, as long as they dont speed down the road above the limit or spin the wheels, it doesnt bother me.

They still arent as bad as commodore drivers

i agree some of them are , but theyre not as bad as most of the commodore drivers around here... especially the ones in vns... groups of 4 or 5 of them crammed in, yelling and abusing and trying to start things... just pathetic... at least when the skylines get scared they can race off... the commodores usually just leave a smoke screen...

Yeah im not trying to labelling all skyline drivers as idiots or anything with this thread as i know a few owners of skylines and they are decent blokes but there are a few, i've just noticed this trend of hitting the limiter at a takeoff and it doesnt make any sense, to me anyways.

Its a well known design flaw. There was a recall apparently.

Gotta admit, the RB engines do sound nice, when reving freely though.

I've seen a few do it, but I think the real culprits are idiots in VNs and there's nothing worse then hearing the sound of a Auto rattle box, at high revs. :

ive driven an r33, and its damn hard NOT to tramp it off the lights, they sound damn good and that needle spins around a whole lot quicker than you expect it to...

Are you sure it just not the blow-off valve that you are hearing? If a Skyline was hitting it's limiter you would not be anywhere near it.

I've got an EL as well as an AW11 MR2, and the thing is, when I'm driving the EL, there's no point revving it past 4500 rpm as its all over, it just makes a lot of noise and uses a lot of fuel. But in the MR2, its damn hard not to rev it right out to the 7600rpm limiter as its so much fun, and very addicitive. It makes peak power at 6600rpm, hardly uses any fuel doing so, and sounds sweet (and NO I don't have a cannon exhaust on it and I never will!)

Its all in the name of fun.

Honestly, 5 years ago, when I got my first car, an '85 XF Falcon, I would never have thought I would own a 4 banger or *gasp* a toyota, but now that I own both, I prefer to drive the MR2, even though its 8 years older, its so much more fun and makes the Falcon feel like a boat.

Can't beat a Falcon for comfortable, long haul, effortless cruising though.

Just the addiction of boost. The most satisfying part of driving is flooring it to the limit. Just as many people with Commodores and Falcons are like that as well.

limiter and bov sound absolutely nothing alike...so how can somebody mistake a limiter for a bov...?

nah thats not what the topic is about dude, its about skyline drivers taking off from almost every set of lights being "cool" hitting the limiter all the time because they have a "cool car"

Im not talking about people giving it stick off the lights, god knows ive done it many a time im purely asking if its nessecary to hit the rev limiter while doing so? if you dont like it dont read it or post, simple.

I bet your just sour because you were beaten by a P plater in his skyline who cant seem to change gears at the right time.

Nice way to take things too seriously, where in this thread did i say anything about racing or anything offensive towards skyline drivers, i happened to have alot of respect for the rb motor and i know most skylines would probably wipe my sprint as it stands now. My question was simple and yet you cant seem to grasp it properly and have to get on the defensive about something that isnt ment to be derogatory by any means, just settle mate.
