Hey guys there is a 2litre Escort about 20mins from me for sale with a 2litre pinto motor.

Should go pretty well a light body with plenty of power. A couple of things.1 Not sure but a significant upgrade as this may have needed an engineers cert. 2. Have the brakes been upgraded as well? The 2L pinto motor lends itself well to mods far better than the 1.6. Lots of older scorts have been raced or used for hillclimb. Mk2s had a worse reputation for rust than 1s but it is a 30yr old car. The pommy electrics were a bit of a reliability issue so if you intend to put a bit extra strain on them then upgrade the alternator to a bigger one. If you buy it then have a great eperience they are a fun car and with that much extra power you will scare a few 6s and 8s.WOOHOO

Cortina/Escort 2litre is not a Pinto 2.0litre. The Pinto has a bigger bore spacing so they could bore them out to 2.3 & is a longer engine than the Cortina....

The original Pinto was 2Ltr 1971 to 1980 The 2.3 came out latter in Mustangs 1974 to 1980 ...The Pinto was around back when Mach 1 Mustangs where new and the thought of having a 4 cyl in a Mustang ??? You'd be sent to an asylum!!!!

Definately check for rust. I was looking at one for fuel saving going to work and back. Looked good on the outside, but did the old 'magnet trick' and it fell off a lot around the bottom of doors and wheel arches. Sat inside and looked under dash and I could see the engine bay, I kid you not!

I have a Mk2 2 door which was a ex rally car. Its got a 2 Litre Pinto and when i had it it was on the 32/36 carb with extractors and a locked 4.11 Diff, and i only drove it in driveway but it got of the line very quick! lol

Its now sporting a Turbo Injected 2 Litre Pinto and a sierra 5 speed, hoping to get around 180kw at wheels on 16psi boost.

Get the Escort! I might be biased but i dont think you will regret it!

they are a deceptively quick car. anyone who has owned one will know exactly what a 2litre Escort can do. anyone who has never owned one claims that 2 litres is for milk and juice. :

mechanically, the car should be tough as nails. the pinto is a very strong motor, however do the usual checks for smoke etc. body wise, as others have said, check for rust. the 2 litre should go very well in a MK1, but i have driven one that didnt impress me at all. it felt like the handbrake was left on...3 grand means that the car will probably be reasonably solid but in need of some work. good luck.

Awesome little cars mate, owned quite a few over the years. The 2.0 goes pretty hard and responds to basic mods very well. They brake well enough, id just put slotted rotors on.

A few things to consider

Its pommy - theyre tempremental but easy to work on
age - look for rust in the heater bubble on the firewall, bottom of the front guards, c-pillar and spare tyre wells
