I noticed yesterday when I went shopping that just about 90% of the standard things I buy fortnightly has all increased by around 5c (which doesn't seem much I guess)..
Then went to put fuel in and nearly flipped out... it was $1.38 (with a discount)!!!!!! : I am thinking this Christmas time will definitely see it around the $2 mark... or very very close anyway.

I got hired at my job when petrol was $1pl. I should now be getting an extra $20 a week to combat this? Where else am I gonna pull the money when my family is on a single income wage???

To be honest I don't think $2 is the upper limit either.
I think we maybe seeing 20-50 cent price increase every year forever. Think about how crippling that will be and how inflation will rise with that. 20% interest rates on a home loan? LPG seems not to have risen much.. you can still buy it for 45 c in most places tho some have jacked up to 55c. |

That's life. Exactly.
Blaming an oil company for the price of petrol is remarkably stupid. Reduce demand, increase supply or stop whinging about it!!!

Not so sure about the 'increase supply' part... but definitely agree with the 'or stop whinging about it' Unless we as a nation want change and force change, then it will not happen. It is like everything though, people think stuff it, its too hard to try to change.. Yeah it might be one hell of a battle.. but you think about how many car clubs alone there are throughout our country... (not just Ford ones).. if they all stood as one.. things might change (may not too, but without trying, who knows)... Time people stopped standing back and thinking, 'someone else will do it'.. my 2c worth today :

Sounds easy but global factors such as these dictate what we pay. But i agree if you want to drive you need petrol so there is no point going on about it and complaining. Before anyone gets upset that first line obviously is not serious.. |

But... isnt it somewhat selfish for us to take action, make demands etc to effect a fall in fuel prices? I mean - my housemate drives a 2 door lancer (no - he's not gay but i was suspicious!) and the thing uses, literally, 50% of the fuel that my car does. So.. if everyone who drives a commodore or falcon or other large car were to opt for something more fuel efficient - it would have a HUGE impact on the consumption of refined petroleum products. I dont agree that we should be demanding lower fuel prices out of one side of our mouth whilst burning more than is necessary out of the other.... Devil's advocate, of course

I think you will find most of the whigning comes from people that drive 1.8L hatchbacks.
People with Falcons and V8's and turbos generally accept they are going to pay a hefty premium. And the amount of right peddle action dictates fuel costs more than prices at the pump. Some of us have averaged 20l per 100 for a whole tank.. A 6 speed 4.0L falcon ain't a fuel inefficent car if you do mostly highway driving and little stop start driving. |

also theres been alot of years between the invention of hydrogen/electric/hybrid cars and today and where still using fossil fuels if u ask me im gonna be driving my falcon till it blows up or they make a nice looking hydrogen/electric car like the falcon instead of those un safe, ugly looking bubbly cars way of the future pfffft |

I have never complained about the price of fuel, My car has a fuel consumption problem that i am currently trying to rectify, I got a 75 litre tank with a massive dint under it, I fill up with 68litres every 2 weeks @ about $85, I get a return of 240km on average, Which is about 20 something litre per 100km.
My nephew drives my sister proton which runs 7 litres per 100km, He doesn't pay for petrol and moans about it. Quote:

I am one of those that refuse to sell my car and get one of those little buzz boxes.. but, I also realise that my driving will not be as often, or as far because of that decision. It is a fact of life.. my choice is exactly that my choice (doesn't mean I have to be happy because the fuel companies think its ok to jack the price up because of a weekend or long weekend....)

I've heard people say things like, "We have our own oil rigs getting oil from our own country, why don't we use it?" Does anyone know? Is it quality of fuel, octane, labour too high, not enough to go around for everyone? I wonder if we did use it, would it be influenced by world wide prices? If it was cheaper, maybe it'd get exported so they might keep the price the same.
Maybe we do use it?

I'm the same a 6 is as small as i will go so then you need to just cut back at touch. It also make you think twice before you step hard on the accelerator, I have walked to the shop of late thinking it's a waste of petrol to warm the car up and drive 4min to the shop, I can walk it in 25 min.
