OK gang help me out here i was turning into my street on saturday at about 30-40km/h and lost my steering...once i turned my music down i noticed the engine wasn't runnning either meaning only one thing... MY AUTOMATIC STALLED
since then it keeps wanting to stall when ever i am stopped at a corner, or even just driving under 50km. it gives hell horrible shakes and i'm scared... i've checked everything that I thought of to check like the battery, ignition leads?, oil, coolant, every damn wire i could see and i'm lost...HELP. PS. am NEVER taking my car to FORD for service EVER EVER EVER AGAIN... :(

does it drop right down in revs when you pull up at a set of lights or back off when going slow???
Mine does that everytime i disconnect the battery and the ECU resets itself. It drops to like 300 revs or less when pulling up at lights, driving at slow speeds (like 30 or 40km/h) and backing off/ slowing down, then will pick itself back up. It has never stalled, but has come bloody close. It normally only lasts a week or two with mine and then the computer relearns itself and doesnt do it anymore.

possibly due to not doing the "re learning after battery disconection"
theres a tutorial on it on aufalcon.com website..

hmmm, come to think of it yes it does. surely you'd expect the computer not to do that to ya but. it's horrible. a couple of km's before it stalled i was going about 80kph, and the tacho jumped like from 2000 near abouts to close to 4500-5000 in the blink of an eye and i wasn't givving the pedal tihs

then id say same as mine. I did the relearning process last time and it deffinately helped "A Little", but still did the whole almost stall thing for about a week or so. If you wait a while it should fix itself. if need be, when braking hard and when it will really really drop right down, i still give it a little throttle, so that the revs stay up at least at 800 or 900rpm. just either left foot brake or keep a little throttle on with your heel while braking. Id rather do that then let the thing shake the ИИИИ out of itself when it almost stalls.
Cheers.

Both these guys, and sometimes myself, experience these troubles at low revs, just off idle, when fuel flow is lower presumably! If the mesh is clogged with crud, (if it can be) this would affect things perhaps? GK |

sounds like the ol' AU stall issue to me. Reset the ECU, follow the instructions to the letter (from aufalcon.com) and give the engine at least 50 or so km's afterwards to adjust.
i took my car to the mechanics and auto electrician 4 times before this trick fixed it...also i was low on coolant. but i worked out everytime the battery gets disconnected, it stalls (i drive an auto too), then i reset the ECU and everything is fine again. but hey that could be just me!

Did anyone here manually adjust the base idle speed before going into the ECU re-learn?

Dark horse could be right, the rpm at idle could be a little low, take it back to Ford if they serviced it recently and get them to check the idle rpm, it shouldn't take them long to check.

thing with mine is Idle RPM is no worries, its when pulling up the revs die off (as normal) but dont stop at base idle, they drop right down to nearly nothing then bounce back to idle RPM. It fixes itself after a while, but i guess it is worth a look.

If AU's have an Idle Speed Motor, that's what I'd be checking. |

I removed the idle speed motor, cleaned out the carbon and voila....no more idle speed problems. I'm not sure whether AU's have an Idle Speed Motor. A quick Google suggests they may have but I'm sure there are people in here who can confirm. They might also confirm that carbon build-up *may* be a cause of your symptoms.... as I said my sole experience in this area was with a Verada... |

*not really applicable*
but when my ED got a flat batt, after we changed it, it kept stalling, it was an auto, and didnt have a tacho so i couldnt see what was happening* but after about a week it was fine... the computer took its time to relearn stuff.

my thoughts are with ronwest as the same thing (ISC motor). My old ea had that
same problem as a result of going to ford and they reconnected the isc motor but had'nt pushed the two plugs together properly. But then again an ea is nothing like an au. well best of luck with it anyway |

Could be a lose earth..on the engine..could be that ur base idle is too low or maybe you have a few wires that have been cut n joined and not soldered properly and there could be an interference in the wires...

right, so it's best to wait it out by the sounds for another week and see if the battery theory is true? i suppose i can do that, i'm getting up on the hoist today to have it inspected for fitting the new exhaust. (2.5" here we come).
whilst i've got it in there i'll ask him if he knows what doing. taking it to a (sort of) mate mechanic this time has great raps about him so...and anythings gotta be better than ford. quick question anyone know where to get a good pair of chrome racing type pedals ya know with the holes in em that fit the au1's and are gonna go on and stay on.

Just take the ISC off and give it a clean with carby cleaner - it's a 5 minute job, it's only held on with 2 bolts if that's your problem it will fix it right up. It could also be the the MAP sensor because the ECU see's a signal from it that says "Car is decellerating" and cuts most the fuel so if that signal is off the ECU might take its time turning the juice back on.
But do the ISC first. |
