Default new bit of rice

well, got bored today and so i had some inspiration to get a mate to build something for me

after i had chopped 4" from the height of the gear stick, i found that the rubber boot was too big to fit and so for about 2 months i drove around with an open hole in the centre console.

the plate fits snuggly into the plastic surround ring, and its 6mm aluminium. at the moment its brushed aluminium, and its still needs a bit of work to get the natural imperfections of the aluminium surface out. a bit of sanding and polishing and it should look pretty bling.

shifting through the gates has become a bit more fun though, the 2-3 change is a bit of a ИИИИИ, but every other gear change is fine. its also a lot noisier as its now metal on metal clinking, but i guess thats part of the novelty factor.

next is to get a bit of felt on the bottom to hide the inner guts of the centre console

big thanks to veilspade for doing the work

Very nice. Reminds me of the Ferrari and Lamborghini manual set ups. At least there's no dog leg first gear to contend with...

Very nice.. They should have come like that from factory (Fiesta rubber boots are ugly!)

Cant say I'm a fan at all, but its what you like. It would sound very ferrari on the gearchanges though: "clink".

I second that! I like the gates... just wouldn't like the bad refinement in changing gears that comes with it!

What about some felt underneath it and cut out a tract along each line.

The leaver should force it apart but close as it passes

Get the ford logo laser engraved into it?

Josh, that's gotta be an improvement over your "ventilated console" mod.

Looks quite well done Dave, good stuff.

No It doesn't, But seeing as how there is no Momo gear knob option for the Ford Fiesta, I assumed that that is what Veilspade was talking about, sheesh...... Think about it.

You could always engrave the shift pattern on the alloy...

Default New bit of rice

On the subject of defects for gearnobs...

Last night i got pulled over just for an RBT.
bout 5 or 6 cops on the side of the road all looking at me as i pulled in.

Not one of them said anything about my tint, not one said anything about wheels, not one of em said anything about my exhaust, not one of em said anything about the car being lowered, and noone definately said anything about my momo gearnob not having the 1-2-3-4-5-R on it.

Maybe when it comes time for rego i might get picked on.. but MEH

Haha - maybe because your car looks good... Classy and European. Might have been a different story if it was a Accent.....

That Rocks !!!!!

I tried to figure out how to do it to my Laser eon's ago but figured out that the gear knob shaft was too wide so would not be able to get a gate for each gear. You may have noticed on Ferrari's their gearknob shafts ar very thin.

I think that rock and would be a must for ricers - might make a quid out of that you might

anyway, got the elbow grease out, with a bit of some wet and dry, and polished it all up. also took out some of the gate metal, so the shifts are far easier now.
