Yes, but that was some 16 years ago. Back then Sth Korea was under martial law and there was a 10pm curfew every night. Haven't been back since, but from what I've seen, it has undergone a meteoric rise from a backwards dictatorship to one of the world's leading technological countries.

The Korean people are generally quite friendly, but extremely patriotic, so don't go bagging anything Korean! Be prepared for eyeful after eyeful of Hyundais, Kias, Daewoos, etc. Only rich people drive foreign cars because of v. high import tariffs.

Been to Korean some 8 times over the last 10 years as a Hapkido (Martial Arts Teacher). No shots required and as mentioned English is becoming more and more common as its seen as being a big plus status wise to be able to speak it. Costs can really depend on whether you are in Seoul or out a little, pretty much on a par with here for some items, others like accomodation can be pricey downtown. Hitting the markets is always fun and bargain hard, its expected.

Enjoy the traffic its one of the few places where its not uncommon to nudge other cars if they get in the way ;) Look for the dodge'em car type strips on some of the Hyundai's, etc.

Regards

M G
