Default Time for AC check?

My 2001 AU ute doesn't feel like the AC is 100% anymore. I'm not sure if it's this constant cr@ppy heatwave or defective system, but it seems to take a long time to cool the cab down, and on max cold, it never actually feels "cold". If this just a symptom of the weather, me, or just take it in and get checked??? Is AC designed to only last the 3years of the warranty before needing to be regassed, etc?

Rod.

Mine has been doing that for a while. Air comes through perfectly cold then blows hot air, then cold. It gives me the .... What could the problem be?

my au2 gets cool ok but takes a little while to get fully cold on a 40 deg day mine may need gas as well, i had a look in the shop manual it said (it is considered normal for the system to require occasional regassing) but it appears there is no set time in the maintenance section of the book, it does say if its lo on gas with the ac on with engine running there will not be much tempreture difference between the inlet and outlet lines at the compressor, good luck rod.

first thing that comes to my mind, is heater tap cutting in and out chief ??? the heater tap is operated by vacumm i think, im wondering if theres a vacum leak somewhere letting heater cut in and out
