Default Mmmm, stoppage improvers

Picked up some new DBA disc's today to get rid of that horrible shudder I've suffered with far too long. Figured may as well get some "nancy boi" slots in them too and a set of the premium Ferodo Formula pads. Big thanks to XR6007 at Sunshine Repco for sorting it all out for me. All I had to do was walk in and pay, no stuffing around.

Now if it would stop bloody raining so I can fit them.

Very nice. I got the DBA 4,000's and Ferrodo pads on my car.

I don't think it entirley rids the car of brake shudder. I get a little from time to time.

I would have loved to go PBR's but a) the AU1 needs major mods to fit them and b) I'd need major mods in the hospital if I spent $2.5K on brakes while the EF wagon slowly gathers dust up on jackstands :

Good choice white ghost. Just make sure you bed them in properly - Accelerate to 60, then moderate braking down to 10, accelerate to 60 again, travel 200 to 300m and moderate braking down to 10. Repeat 4 to 5 times (each time consists of 2 lots of braking, so 8 to 10 stops all up).

Alright, heres a stupid question, is there a trick to getting the old discs off?
I know they are just "sitting" in the hub but bugger me if they want to come off. 7 years of road grim, brake dust and intense heat has really stuck them on good!

I used a big hammer to bang to disks off. Just give them a good whack on the disk face an they should just fall off.

Looks good - have you found an immediate improvement. I'd be surprised if you haven't.

ROFL Bucky - I can only try! But I wouldn't call anything you've sold me yet cheap. Inexpensive, but not cheap.

No problems Casper!! They look great!!!!!!!! Once you bed the pads in (usually good after 300kays) and once those puppies heat up, boy oh boy do they pull up!!!

Well, the shudder is now a bad memory. As for improvement, the car has done about 20 stops from 60kph and under and then parked again so its impossible to tell. Pedal is still a bit soft. I'll give it a good run over the next few days and let you know. So far it all feels about right and certainly it can still trigger the ABS so, even with a doughy pedal its all working nicely.
As xr6007 said though, these pads feel like they need heat to get the best from them.

i have slotted rotors on my AU fairlane and the steeringwheel shudders left to right VERY badly..

dunno when they were put on.. but it has done it since i had the car sadly..
i just fitted ferodo pads tho (the fairlane listing in the ferodo pad booklet at supercheap is wrong GRR.. was listed as being AU2 and 3 also... which as we know rnt the same..

so after taking them back flicking thru the book again i found the CORRECT item by browsing the XR6 and FALCON section

I'm looking into getting a set of these for the ED.
How much did you pay for them casper?
I'm just after rough pricing as to what i have to pay.

Rough pricing, about $150 per rotor and the pads are $180. All up your looking at $480+ fitted yourself (which is easy once you woek out how to get the rotors off). Shop around though, you can get things cheaper if you are willing to shop around or go for a less intense pad etc.

You didn't do bearings whilst you were at it?

AU bearings are a sealed unit. I know on the X and E series you had to ake the bearings out to replace the rotors but the AU is different. There is no need to replace, regrease and repack the bearings. Makes for a much easier (and cleaner) job.

Those rotors sure do the trick of stopping the car ive got them on my mont but im using Ebc black stuff pads all round they also need heat to work properly.

For the price of the rotors its always handy to know someone in the trade i picked mine up for $85 a piece.

They are the top of the range Ferodo's. I'll let you know in a week or 2 just how good they are but, from my quick dirve this morning, 2 words come to mind "HOT DAMN". They are good.. but they need heat.

I know the AU1 was often bagged for having little brakes but, to be honest, I never had a problem with the stock ones apart from massive shudder developing. Putting these pads and rotors on has given a noticable improvement (more the pad than the rotor to be honest) and, I'm sure, given a really hard time and multiple hard stops, the rotors will prove their worth at getting rid of gasses between the pad and rotor surface.

Anyhow, here is a link to the ferodo site for these pads:
http://www.motospecs.com.au/ferodo_formula.html

I'm using the DBA slotted with Bendix CT pads and they pull up real nicely. Much, much better than the old discs and pads.

Probably worth getting the fluid flushed as well - so you are completely refreshed on the brakes front.
