Default Why I couldn't get the FOCUS number plate

I was looking into possible numberplate combos for my car. I went on the RTA website and punched in FOCUS. was taken already. Was thinking some plucking lucky Focus owner has got it and I forgot all about it.

Went to the local Aldi supermarket and low and behold what do I see...

Is that real?

To me it looks chopped.

But anyway, there's a fool if I've ever seen one.

Trust me its real. It was taken from a camera phone, and custom plates are orange compared to a yellow for normal issued plates on the CRV.

That plate must have been around along time, it only has NSW accross the top, not like nsw- the ..... state etc like the new issue yellow and black plates.

Between us all, we could provide a number plate spotting service. Let us know what you're looking for and someone here will spot it...

I saw (VIC) STOLEN this morning on a white Volvo P1800 coupe...

Also, Victoria has just started issuing mixes of numbers and letters. If you've always wanted a custom plate but your choices were taken, this may be your chance to get one you like!

Reminds me of the plates I wanted about 10 years ago. Had an Alfa GTV6 2.5l. I wanted GTV-625 plates. Rang RTA, found the plates weren't available. A few weeks later I parked the car in Elizabeth Street, Sydey. Parked right behind me was a blue rusted out hulk of HJ Kingswood station wagon with, you guessed it, GTV-625 number plates.

I thought of leaving the guy a note, offering to buy his car, but then I figured that he'd probably just gouge me on the price when he found out what I really wanted. The Holden looked like it wouldn't get through rego when it came due in a few months time, so I decided to leave it, and call the RTA later in the year.

In the meantime I had a pretty major prang in the Alfa. Insurance decided to repair it (much to my surprise - the car was already 11yo and the damage was $5K+). I had the car fully resprayed for another couple of grand, and the panel shop did a magic job. Unbelievably good. I decided to sell it while it was looking so good. Wound up getting $17K for an 11 year old pranged, repaired, resprayed GTV6. LMAO.

I've recently seen another GTV6 running around with 625-GTV numberplates. Doesn't have the same ring as the ones I wanted.

I think it's classy to have a standard issue plate that is relevant to your car. Black on Yellow tends to detract from that, though. :

I'm sort-of thinking about keeping the black and white plates from the Viva when it goes... :

People put plates on silly cars cause its cheaper than putting the plates in storage at the RTA. If a plate has come off a car and is not registered then the plates must be kept at the RTA, so sometimes it cheaper to use the plates on another car (and its easier to sell them too).

The bloke that owns Exhaust Bros in geelong has a porsche with TAX.DOJ on it. Thought that was cool. Also think a standard issue plate looks good if its relevant to the car. There is a really nice VY2 SS ute in geelong with YLD.350 on it. Nice touch

If you own a 2004 BA LTD in QLD, and you wanted 04 LTD as your plates, forget it.

I saw them on an 2002 Magna...

I've seen it around town but technically its incorrect as the LS1 is 346 ci, not 350. Think I saw your ute today, do you have the same plates as your username?

I believe vic roads can send a letter out to owners of standard issue plates letting them know someone is intrested in them.

Standard issue plates rule. Let's see, $395 for customs or $165 for future issue? Hmmmmmm.

I've got a bit of a problem. Got a set of them for the XB, but I'll be going interstate for a while. Is it easy enough to keep a car regoed in Victoria while I live in Qld or NT?
