some minor faults but nothing serious.
1999 falcon forte wagon (plain jane)
$700 yes you read correctly only two zero`s
I will post a couple of pics soon just dont want to do it with the signage.
just wondering what other great deals have been found.

The company that I work for is based in Canberra,
although the car was shipped from SA to end up in
Vic just so I could buy it

I think it was ment to happen
And yes the plates are on the car until Jan. Then I need to
reregister it

Total Bargain

A nice start for you.

$700 must just have been the book value the accountants had written the car down to as its no where near any market or even auction price you would get for it.

I actually bought it to sell but the missus decided that she liked it better than my XE
(can`t work that one out). So with that I had a decision to make, if I sell it my manly duties would be left on hold for some time.

As far as Vic Roads goes the buggers would not accept $100 for my XE so I figure its gunna cost me almost as much in transfer fees as the car cost.

hey can you tell us how that works... the transfer fees?
i need to transfer one of the cars we have to my name, from my mums name.

If the car is worth say around... $15,000 how much does it cost?
can you give them a B/S figure to get it done cheaper? All i need to do is get it to my name for insurance reasons.

cheers
rob

IIRC Its $5 for every $200 of market value or so, up to a max of $500 I think. (Figures might be a bit off but thats what I remember when I did the AU) You can make up a price but they might not accept it. I think they use redbook in this case.

Transfer costs are 3% of purchase price up to about $50k, then 5%. In the ACT anyway. They ask you for purchase price and market price - I usually fill in the same figure in both, as what you paid for it is what the market wanted/accepted!

Rob - you should not need to put a car in your mum's name to insure it. Insurable will cover anything that you have an insurable interest in. If that measn you drive it every day, but don't own it, then you should be able to insure it in your name, or at least be added to the policy as a regular driver, which will help you get up to a rating 1. But, if you find that you need to transfer it, $15k would be $450 in transfer taxes.

My car is still registered in my companys name but the insurance is in mine
they were not concerned about who owned the car or the fact the it is registered in a different state, they just wanted the main drivers
