If you are able to get a hold its in the Herald Sun Today there are pictures....OMG how anyone survived is beyond me..thats just one messed up thing....
Crash escape astounds police Sarah Wotherspoon and Holly Lloyd-McDonald 17nov05 A MOTORIST miraculously escaped death after the car he was driving split in two when it hit a tree in a street often used for drag racing. Police are baffled at how the Westmeadows man walked away alive from the burning wreck. Chris Zalewski, 24, was driving along Western Ave in Tullamarine when he hit a large gum tree outside a row of factories about 2am yesterday. The back of the Ford travelled another 20m and smashed into a wall. Semi-conscious and suffering head injuries, Mr Zalewski was pulled from the car by mates and taken to a Keilor Downs home. At 3am paramedics went to the house and Mr Zalewski was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital. He was in a stable condition last night. Sgt Stuart Carter, of Craigieburn police, said officers expected the worst when they arrived at the crash site. Locals yesterday told the Herald Sun Western Ave was a popular spot for drag racing. "To come out of that type of accident is amazing. How could somebody walk away from that," Sgt Carter said. Police are waiting on a blood-alcohol test and will interview Mr Zalewski today. Hours after the crash, police launched a safe drag racing initiative at Calder Park. The Operation Drag Right initiative encourages drivers to take to the track under the guidance of police and legally race their machines. The first races will be held at Calder Park from 5pm tomorrow. Insp Tim Peperkamp said racing illegally on public roads often ended in disaster. "We want to entice young drivers on to the safety of the racetrack." Witnesses to the Western Ave crash can contact Leading Sen-Constable Darryl Briody, of Sunbury police, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

I think it was an ESP aswell...bloody tool!
thats amazing how they got him to another house 10k's away...its not like they could crash it and then not get tracked down anyway. It annoys me that people like that get there hands on nice cars.

And from what they said on the news last night, the car had been unroadworthied. It wasn't his car, it was on loan from a mate, and a car doesn't split in half like that while you're doing 60 k's down some backstreet.
I don't know if that was innacurate at the time, and some mistruths have been cleared up or whatever, but I reckon he ran out of talent, and the tree won. |

Another case of ILLEGAL STREET RACING being compared to legal drag racing (that is on the track), no wonder the boys & gals that race professionally get so annoyed about this whole thing. Talk about giving the sport of drag racing a bad name.
We have a local streets that are used for doing blockies at ridiculous high speeds but no won cause that 'touring cars' now do they? Or people who enjoy flicking their car about as 'drifting'.

Well, the car might of been unroadworthy because the engine bay was cut in half.... and then he some how lost control at 100km/h or something :P - we'll never know... :P
That's unfortunente... but lucky the guy has a good mate, he said "you can replace cars, but you can't replace a mate - happy he pulled through" - very close to what he said on TV. - also anyone got anymore pictures? |

I work literally around the corner from the crash scene, there are skidmarks for at least 30 metres going up the road before the impact, half was left at the tree and the other half in a car park of a business. Would have been absolutely flying.
