Default 427 Sohc

Just wondering was the Ford 427 SOHC are Cobra engine?

I got one of those awesome revell put together engine models and thats what I got but it doesnt say what its out of. :

The 427 is a windsor i think.
Cobra Jets are 429?
Tho i'm probably way off.

cobras came with 427, 428 & 429, the 429 is the "cobra jet" engine.

I had a feeling they were a Cobra engine but I wasnt quite sure.

427 SOHC was an over the counter option and was never installed in a production car.

The 427 was an FE block with SOHC heads. The kit youve got is of the production engine. The only cars they where ever put in where the Ford production FMX drag cars, mostly the comets and Mercuyrs. They only made 800 of them so they are worth plenty today.

I think this car had it... look at the engine, 427ci, 4 valves per cyl...

Not a bad engine for 1970 either... 280kW (375hp) @ 5600rpm, 610Nm (450ftlbs) @ 3400rpm.... nice.

Ford's Single Overhead Cam (SOHC) 427 was based on the standard 427 FE side-oiler block, with a unique set of heads and a dummy cam stub in the usual position to drive a second timing chain 6-7 feet in length to spin the two overhead cams. Available over the counter from Ford for US$2,500, it made 616bhp @ 7500 with one or 658 bhp @ 7500 with two 780 vac-secs.

speaking of which, does anyone offer OHC heads as afermarket for the good ol fords? (windsors and clevelands obviously, not talkin bout the BOSS motors)

back in the 60's, ford produced a few prototype OHC heads for windsors... i belive that it was the 255 indy windsor, that ford created for racing only... unfortunantly they only fit the 255, no other windsor...

I'd love some OHC heads for my 5.0... but i haven't seen any aftermarket.

LINK HERE for a pic of the model on my desk. Pretty nice little model and about $130 with die-cast block, spinning fan etc. with belts.

$130??? You can buy the kit of the same thing for just over $50.

I've started to put it together.

Screwing the block on the stand was ****ing me off though but I got it on there.

Now im having trouble fitting the fan cause it has these tabs that go into 3 holes at the front but the bastards wont go all the way in.

It seems like I got a bodgy one.

Thats what I've read on the mtr and the only car I have ever read about was a American car mag called Car Craft & they had a light weight black 2 door Mercury or Galaxy with the mtr fitted to it.
