If I used the work dial in system (self managed dial up) its 14.4k on one number and 9600 on the other.

Needless to say this is slowly being phased out for vpn access by subsidised adsl/cable

We do get CDMA service .... in some parts of the house ...... is really strange ... we are quiet high up ..... like in like with the tips of the highest peaks in the warumbungles .... We get exceptional TV only on rabbits ears .......

Were usually on the net for a considerable number of hours in the evenings & most weekends ......... having unlimited dialup has made us greedy :P

well for me more often than not, my connection speed is around the 12kbps mark with occasional 14.4kbps speed bursts. living 30kms away from the exchange might have something to do with it lol

Maybe I've missed what you are saying here, but if HTTP is at 14.4Kbps so will be any e-mail on the same connection. How is this an advantage/faster?

Snap!

I get intermittent line noise which causes my connection to drop out or connect at a very low speed. After a while I decided to rename my "Dialup Connection" to something more appropriate. Then I once got a such a woeful connection that I just had to take a screenshot for future reference.

One of these days I'll ring Tel$tra and get them to fix it, but I keep forgetting.

Well.. if your regional and slow I would say its a Pair Gain system.. its telstra's cheaper solution which they can still rip you off with as its declared a "Voice line", which they only guarantee 4k connection.

Good luck getting off it.. took us 2 years to get off one..

If you are not in an ADSL service area you should still be able to install ISDN. This has a range of about 16km from the exchange or RIM and really only is not available in the desert and offshore. 128Kb/s (15.8KB/s)
