What ^he^ said. The Monroe GT gas are about as good as it gets for the money.

With no budget, go for Koni or Bilstien.

Rick.

Yup i agree with the others have said.

I'll just add one more to the mix, if the budget stretches beyond Monroes, but not as high as Koni's or Bilstein's, then Pedders aren't a bad middle of the road choice ;)

KYB are also in the middle there. $500ish for the set.

Where abouts do you live in melbourne? Northen Suburbs? I know a place in the NE suburbs, that are fairly good. Good blokes and they do a heap of awesome cars, and do suspension for a lot of racing cars. They actually used to do the suspension work on DJR cars back in the EA-ED era. Centerline Suspension they are.

Are not the Pedders still made by Monroe anyway? Possibly to a slightly modified spec I suspect.

You should be able to find Konis for roughly 700 and Bilsteins will set you back around 900. And then there are even better Konis that are a bit more again. Something like that, anywho!

That sounds pretty close, the difference between the Konis are, the reds (cheaper ones) are not gas pressurised, the yellow's are.
Reds are excellent, yellows are even better - first class.

They have adjustable damping, though not all of them have adjustable height, simply because many don't hold the the spring like a strut type shock does.

I also need to get a set, well just the rears. Any point getting Pedders Sportsryders again (I'm guessing this is going to be a $300 odd exercise) or just get some Monroe GT? They will handle the lowered springs, right?

The Monroes are ok with low, but not superlow.

I've heard this rumour as well. Not sure if it's true or not. But as someone who has owned both Monroe GT Gas and Pedders Sportsryder, I can tell you they're sure as hell not the same! ;)

Even better, though some have reported problems with the Monroes and superlows.

at the moment i have superlows with monroes... as far as a car with superlows goes, it rides quite well.. a little stiff at times..

i just got a set of pedders sportsryder springs, the 30mm standard lowered ones, and i just need to get the original koni's off the thing rebuilt, which will cost me about 300$ for the set of 4..

apparently koni still make oil based shocks? the gas in gas shocks just keeps the oil in them cooler or something, doesnt it?

cheers,

ive got super lows and kyb shocks, and its good until you turn a corner. way too much body roll which is partly the sway bars fault but i dont like the feel of them, i want to get rid of these shocks and get either koni reds (which come in both on car and off car adjustable) or bilsteins. Has any one tried bilsteins? are they rebuildable like konis? and are they adjustable?

I've tried King SL with Monroe GT GAS, King SL with Pedders, Pedders with Pedders and King SL with KONI Adjustable. Koni works the best....but they're to expensive. So idealy on a street car I would run Pedders Shortened Shocks with King Springs. For Racing I wouldn't reccomend pedders.....they seem to cause diff bouncing issues. Mainly cause they are made to be fairly soft, so u get a comfy ride....lol

Koni and Bilsteins are both serviceable. Hence, when they are a bit shagged, you can take them to an authorised service place and get them fixed back like new. I think they are meant to last about 200k kms!

But other than that, they're quality is second to none. I'm not sure what materials etc they use, someone else will be able to tell you about that!

Im definatley having a look tonight if they are re-servicable.

Any idea on how much a service costs?
