I have a freshly rebuilt 347 Windsor engine, it seems to have oil coming out of the rocker cover breather, any ideas how to stop this, engine did not do this before rebuild.

Rings haven't bedded in yet.. Hope you have just mineral oil in it.. Check your breathers.. Then do some reasonably hard acceleration runs from 60 to 100kph or speed limit..
A few minutes a part. Make sure its not running too rich or advanced !!

If you've already "run it in", it's already too late to stop the blow by. You need to do the hard acceleration runs the first time you take it for a drive once up to running temp or the rings won't be pressed hard enough against the bore walls to get rid of the honing marks. After the first heat cycle and no hard runs, all you do is take the edges off the hone marks and the bore will forever leak gasses, and possibly oil too.
The best advice I was given re engine run in was warm it up, go do half a dozen power runs in third gear starting with pulling to 1/2 revs then work your way up to 3/4 revs, (to redline). Then go back and dump the oil and do it again. ... Then it'll be good to go and you can spend the time to bed everything else in.

You bed the RINGs in .. The cross hatch marks on he bore stay there..

Doesn't sound good, hopefully it is just needing to be run in and not damaged rings.
How many kilometers have you done with this motor so far?

Did you fit fancy rocker covers to it? - the ones without a baffle covering the breather cap??
Quite common to see oil being forced out by roller rockers because there is no baffle on some aftermarket rocker covers. Check out the standard ones. The have baffles from factory to stop this happening. but with high lift cams And high lift rockers there isn't alot of roo for baffles inside. |

Being the simplest look at the PCV valve operation. It should be connected from the valve to the carby base with no leaks.
The carby sucks any blow by from the sump when the valve opens etc and an airstream is ingested into the sump area via the breather you mention to assist in creating airflow, ie air should be going into this breather not oil coming out But as Crazy Dazz indicates it is still common for a small amount of oil to drip out even under normal operation but not a lot etc. If that all seems ok then as paulie indicates if you have now fitted different covers then pull it and check for a baffle as no baffle will mean the rockers can throw oil into this breather. |
