I wonder what the 'expanded wiring harness' entails?

Where are the drl's? I have the Ford accessory ones that go in the foglight holes. Is that what they mean or have they now been integrated into the headlight?

MELBOURNE, 17 Apr, 2014 – Ford has beefed up its formidable Ranger lineup with the addition of the Ranger 4x4 XL Plus series.
The Ranger 4x4 XL Plus includes several important upgrades to take Ford’s award-winning Pick up to a new level. It has been launched to fulfil the needs of the mining industry, key government agencies, as well as private Ranger customers.
The Ranger 4x4 XL Plus will be available in Single Cab Chassis, Double Cab Chassis and Double Cab Pick-up models. The Manufacturer’s List Price* is $46,280 for the Single Cab Chassis, $51,760 for the Double Cab Chassis and $52,760 for the Double Cab Pick-up.
All come standard with Ford’s proven 3.2-litre turbo-diesel engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The newest series arrives in dealerships from May, 2014.
The arrival of the Ranger 4x4 XL Plus complements the recently improved Pick-up lineup for 2014, which includes the standardisation of airbags across the range, addition of the Ranger XLS in both 2.2-litre manual and automatic variants and 3.2 automatic and improved supply of the top-of-the-range Ranger Wildtrak.
The Ranger 4x4 XL Plus is a purpose-built new vehicle with specifications and features that will appeal to industry fleet buyers, including mining companies, government departments and organisations seeking more from their Ranger. The Ranger XL Plus will also be available to private buyers.
The Ranger 4x4 XL Plus has a locking rear differential and a tow bar rated to 3,500 kg. The new model takes advantage of the 5-star ANCAP safety rating requirements for new vehicle purchases by large fleet companies.

Ranger 4x4 XL Plus standard features include:

4x4 shields / mud flaps / tow bar
Daytime running lights
Running boards (Double Cabs only)
17-inch steel wheels and All-Terrain tyres (Continental 265/65 R17)
Heavy duty canvas seat covers
Expanded wiring harness and switch bezel
Front battery 75 amp hours
Second battery 80 amp hours deep cycle discharge Gel battery
Second battery isolator
Moulded black bumpers

Optional: Steel bull bar (retains 5-star ANCAP rating)

Ford Australia Vice President of Marketing, Sales and Service, Graeme Whickman, said Ford had worked with key industries, including the mining sector, to develop the Ranger XL Plus.

“These industries have very specific demands on their vehicles so that’s why we created the Ranger 4x4 XL Plus,” Whickman said. “It will be a popular addition to mining industry and business sector fleets but we also expect there to be strong support from private customers who have a particular need for this type of vehicle.”
On top of the Ranger XL specification, the Ranger XL Plus adds running boards, a second battery, expanded wiring harness, all-terrain tyres and an optional steel bull-bar, which is exactly what customers in this segment have been wanting.
In 2013 the Ford Ranger was named the International Pick-up of the Year and it continues to garner accolades around the world. Ford Australia sold more than 20,000 Rangers last year and the Australian designed and engineered pick-up continues to win customers with its features and the off-road abilities of the 4x4 models.
As with all Rangers, the Ranger 4x4 XL Plus has Bluetooth®1, USB and iPod2 integration and voice control over the radio, CD, iPod, USB, and mobile phone. Similarly, cruise control is standard across the entire range.
The Ranger is being manufactured in three continents and is sold in more than 180 countries.

Cheers
Russ

they are still too low.. i work at Rio tinto and we have them on alot of our sites (not these new mine spec ones) and they dont have a good wrap
biggest thing is they are too low to the ground .. they were putting 17" tyres, bash plates (which i see ford have fitted to these) on and 2 inch lift kits etc just to drive around in the pit
**** to tow the lighting plants around, just not powerful enough
already had a few with stuffed motors and gearboxes

If its those dodgy Motorcraft batteries fitted from factory then the fault isn't with needing a second battery, they're just junk lol.

Unless they're running a stack of electronics but I doubt it?

The Hilux has less power so wouldn't it have a similar problem? Or are you guys using something bigger to pull those lights around?

Headlights are hard wired on, flashing lights get left on in the carpark sometimes over night as well as the radio's

Std batteries don't stand a chance..

Never mind all LV's are supposed to be isolated at shift change !

I was going to ask how they compare to the Landcruisers. They're expensive, though. They'd almost be double the price of the Rangers I'd be guessing?

yeah they are thats the reason for swap and also the 5 star safety rating.. to do a long motor on a v8 looking at about $20k for a long motor for ranger about $8k

no LV get isolated at end of shift here

Thought they would of chucked in the role bar inside the cab as well but guess its not only being aimed at mine site purchase but the general tradies and civil construction.

Bring out the raptor

Bah, we were pulling 70-80A from the standard battery in our Ambos, it had a secondary battery but only for jump starting purposes and running the radio gear.

If its running it'll be alright.

Didn't realise you guys would use the flashing lights without the cars running.

I believe BHP has banned ROPS cause the extra weight raises the center of gravity making the vehicle more likely to roll and vehicles are designed to crush to adsorb G's and make the crash more survivable.

If you are talking about Diesel Prados, the 5 cylinder Ranger seams to go a lot harder.
I drive both, but never towed in them.

Not that I've found the hiluxes any better in this regard. Both are tonka toys compared to a good 76/79 series cruiser.

But the safety nazi's have killed that in the long term as they're not 5 star - as if makes a bit of difference if you're hit by a 793F

And that when introduced at OD, people thought they were indestructible and so drove the machinery harder.

The v8 cruisers aren't that flash either. 10 to 12 hours to change a starter motor is a bit of a joke and happens quite regular up here. Also the difference between the front and rear track width is crazy. But there is not much option in that class of solid axle 4wd until nissan reporter the patrol.

Geez...and people say Toyota Hiluxes are expensive...unless you are willing to go poverty pack, you're paying a huge premium for anything decent. No wonder there's so many Tritons around when you can get one with plenty of options fitted for way less than $40,000...a similar level in a Ranger is over fifty grand...
