FORD are going to have to come out firing all guns or I cann't see the Falcon lasting till 2016. Holden are going to have 12-18 months on the FH and thats too long.. FG Mk 3 is needed...
Very impressive specifications for the new VF models...

Probably different tune to save fuel with the slushbox.

Autos have AFM. It was the same in VE.

$39K Calais with that kind of gear, wagon $41K. Holden are giving their car every chance to succeed. Falcon won't go to 2016 if they offer same pricing but a lack of the same gear.

So it was, and so it is to do with saving fuel. Cheers flappist. I must admit I forgot about AFM because a lot of people I know with VE SSs either have pre-AFM models or get AFM disabled so it doesn't sound bad with their 'zorst.

I have to be honest, that review sounds really promising to me! The exterior is still boring to me, but the interior looks quite nice, performance and economy sound good too. I'd only ever think about getting it in manual, so don't really care about the auto having less power etc.

I agree. The SS-V Redline with proper 355mm Brembo brakes, all the new VF tech plus Bose sound appears to be a good overall proposition. Reasonable fuel consumption for a V8 too @ 11.5 L/100 km's.

I genuinely hope the 2014 Falcons can get close to those features and pricing. I can't see many user choosers going with Falcon just because it has a Ford badge (unless of course the Commodore is plagued with quality issues).

Makes you wonder how they are going to sell all those VE SS & SSV's that are sitting around Holden dealerships all over the country! Lowest VE in NSW is 41ish up to the dearest which is pushing 60. If you like Holdens, probably plenty to be saved on a new VE SS atm.
Just looking at carsales atm, it shows about 38 new VE SS's for sale in NSW, while their is 8 FG XR6 turbo's & only about 18 new FG XR6 turbo's in the whole of Australia in dealerships at this present time.

These are very tempting for me as well. An XR6T ute was always on the shopping list this year, but 4 seats and all that tech is very appealing. Gutted though that the wagon is no longer available in manual. Could be the deal breaker.

To be fair the obvious tech that's missing from these Holdens is adaptive cruise control which I'd prefer over self parking. A 2014 G6ET with some extra tech kit incl ACC, with some engine and aero tweaking for better fuel economy could still be a competitive proposition compared to the Holden's if its better looking, (which wouldn't be that hard), and correctly priced. How they can compete with Holden in the meantime is the $64,000 question ??? I think a large price adjustment is one of their few options.

It's certainly going to make choosing a new ute next year difficult.
I had my heart set on a turbo Falcon, namely an F6 ute, these are no longer available. Then Holden release a very tempting SS-V ute, but I still fall back to a just an XR6T...Then Ford announces the Falcons demise, may the last V8 Falcon ute isn't such a bad thing....Ah, first world problems!

The white SS in that article is downright horrid, it makes a Camry look good.
I couldn't give a toss about specs if the car looks like *****.

It looks good on paper no doubt about it, i still want to hear if the touch screen is readable in high light conditions, nearly every single pic i have seen of that airy cabin(which looks pretty) the touch screen has been in favourable light conditions,
to me it looks like it may suffer big time on a bright day(i hope i`m wrong), i know it is a nitpick , but it is one of my pet hates and can make the difference between being an annoyance every time the sun is out or not, squinting at the dash sucks.
many cars seem to suffer with this, especially ones with big raked back windscreens, which is nearly every car these days.
It looks like
the mirror controls on the commy still need a button to toggle left and right mirror? why don't they have the same setup as the falcon, the button that adjusts the mirrors with a simple twist also alternates left or right mirror, yes i know nit picking , but i have 2 cars one has the same mirror control as the commy(my 20 year old toyota) and my 12 old falcon that has the single dual function mirror control and it works very well.
If we don't have a small whinge about these things carmakers won't try and make them better interested to hear someone's comments that has driven one for a few days.

Hmmmm - Prefer the rear end of the VE Sedan. The VF looks very Camry like - I don't like!! The interior looks like a major improvement but externally I actually prefer the VE!!

I've always thought the Ute is a great looker and if I were in the market would find it difficult to go past. A runout Maloo Ute would be a very tempting proposition but a 100km daily commute across town would put the kybosh on anything like that.

Hopefully Ford goes out in a blaze of glory and tweaks the FG in all its variants to be a humdinger!!

I think it looks better than the old one, less fussy at the front?? and i like the rear treatment better than the old one even if it does look like an Aurion.

To be honest, the VE is a much more cohesive design than the VF.

The rear of my mum's Mazda 3 is tougher looking than the VF. Never thought I'd see a Commodore look like a Mazda. Sign of the times.

At the end of the day, the VF won't be the saviour that Holden hope it will be. Sure, sales will increase, but nowhere near the levels that Holden think or want.
