G'day, the XB Fairmont I'm restoring is nearly finished being painted, now I have a heap of various black-parts that need to be re-done also, gear like the panels under the wheel arches, shifter hump, trans cross-member, headlight surrounds, etc, etc..... I was thinking of just taking all these semi-visible parts to be powdercoated black, has anyone else gone down this path? What are your thoughts about the pros & cons in comparison to getting painted?

Yup, all my suspension, bumper brackets and the headlight brackets were all powdercoated when I rebuilt my XB about 4yrs ago.
While not as glossy as normal paints it does hold up well.

I like powder coating rather than painting.
Most cars have painted parts, when a good job has been done on a part and the powder coated it looks good. IMO. |

i don't have personal experience with it but have heard that if it chips or flakes, it is bare metal underneith not primer as with paint. for this reason i have read many times,in hotrod mags\forrums etc, don,t use it for chassis etc.
