Driving into work this morning, it occurred to me that Ford are wasting a lot of money with the EcoBoost engine. This is not how big power is made from small displacement engines.
After yet again being stuck behind people in people in 4-cyl whitegoods doing 80km/h in 100km/h zones, miraclously these vehicles - whos acceleration is seemingly measured in geological terms and top speed seems about 80km/h - suddenly seem to encounter a massive boost of power and speed as soon as a sign "Passing Lane Ahead 500m" is visible. I think Ford need to keep their money and just fit a standard 2.0L to the FG, but have a clever heads-up display which projects a "Passing Lane Ahead 500m" sign into he drivers field of view when they start to put the foot down. Seems to work for all other N/A 4-cyl vehicles? This system might have a bit of lag, but I'm sure with all the money saved manufacturing actual "stuff" (i.e. turbos) they could iron out the bugs pretty quick .. Nah, they'll just use the new three-cylinder EcoBoost. It should be entertainingly shaky, too.

I want a nail gun under the front bumper so I can shoot tires out. They'd never know I did it!

Yeah because everyone with a small white car drives slow in the right lane. Thread of the year :

Small capacity turbo engines are the not even the future any more.
They are here and now. Less fuel consumption for equal power from a smaller capacity. Who would of thought a 1.4 in a Cruze or Golf would be the biggest selling motor in the range.

Traffic frustrating eh ....I agree 100 %.but I been on the roads for 20 years and hasn't changed , though probably getting worse with all the extra cars on the road these days .
One thing aus will never be able to do is get people to drive in the proper lane , went to brissy for Soundwave on the weekend and I can definitely say I spent a lot of time in the left lane to pass ...its now the fast lane in my books , cause noone drives in it despite all the HUGE SIGNS on the side of the road ..

It astounds me how people drive as you mention ,or come screaming outta nowhere when theres only 2 foot of the disappearing overtaking lane An issue we have out my neck of the woods, is wombats who think overtaking on a blind corner with double white lines is the order of the day We had someone overtake us,in a 4by, stuck behind a 40 foot truck doin 95, close enuf to 100 , and roads are windy, just relax a bit, anywho this bloke overtook us, the truck and pulled back into the lane halfway around said blind corner on the double lines, and only just, there was a rush of 10 cars not 30 secs after he merged Worst part was it was something that struggled to accelorate from his starting speed, it took him ages So whenever we travel the roads in any direction , any corners we slow a tad as we never know whats gunna be comin around the corner on our side So ill add to your suggestion , "Double white lines, blind corners" |

Joke guys .. don't take too serious.
In this specific case (ubiqutious white van) the guy sped up in the passing lane and I didn't bother to pass (he was doing the speed limit at that stage). He then proceeded to speed thru the roadworks on the other side so gave himself a nice buffer infront of me anyway. |

I hate when this happens. It's frustrating. Must be an ego thing. I have cruise set at 100 and as I pull out to overtake, the speed up.
If they are driving below the limit, a small burst of the throttle and it settles it. 1.4 litres won't beat 4.0L of grunt even with a turbo. Was more annoying with my N/A diesel Land Cruiser. Because I didnt' have the grunt to accelerate quickly, i'd get stuck behind them again.

Relax people!
Ozjavelin is just taking the mickey with the 'psychological power booster' that is the 'merge / overtake in x amount of metres' sign.

I do it the reverse way. I sit in the right hand lane because I'm nearly always the fastest on the road. If someone is able to keep up with me, i change to the left hand lane to let them pass. Only about half the time they do, the other half the time they realise that they're Exposed and drop back, cos they can't hack life without the shield of the millennium falcon.

But I notice it a lot here in Melbourne city, drivers who don't want to be drivers, they just want to get to where they're going. When turning into a slip lane, I often find myself having to swerve around them because they're still half in the slip lane half way out. And yes, remarkably, moving from WA to VIC it came as a shock how many speed cameras there are around the place, I thought no sane driver would speed because they would surely get fined multiple times.... sure enough there are a lot of reckless people on the freeways here in Melbourne. I find that with overtaking on country roads, it is certainly an ego thing, you must be ahead of the pack, coincidentally, happens to be every Range Rover on a country road

+1 for country driving.
In sydney nobody cares but here in the mid north they speed up so you cant pass them or when you do eventually overtake them they speed up and are 1" from your tailpipe

I'm also a culprit who sometimes has someone right up my **** on the freeway, let them overtake me, then speed up to overtake them, wait until they can't overtake and ever so slowly reduce my speed... Mind you, reducing it to the speed limit
More than half the time I'll find that it's not modified or sports cars speeding around Melbourne, it's the little ****box Barina who is late to meet her friends at the party

another useful technique could a water spray onto the windscreen and wheels, to simulate rain: to get the omg, its raining better speed home, because there are too many idiots on the road, effect.

Who says your speedo is accurate? It is a good chance that you are actually doing 95km/h or less. If they want to speed let them go and don't be such an ***. |

I have had people try to speed up when I overtake them on the left. I once had a guy accelerate to try and block me out as I was going past, until we hit ~180. He looked down and crapped himself. Only minutes before he was 10km/h under the limit sitting in the right lane, must be another one who thinks his speedo is dead accurate . |
