Default goauto - "Ford provides a glimpse of Falcon’s future"

Could it be...the Falcon metamorphosis??

Quote:

By TERRY MARTIN FORD

Ford has revealed the sleek and sculptural medium-sized car that will be launched in Australia as the fourth generation Mondeo in more than a year’s time.

Although the redesigned car enters production in the US and Mexico later this year for the North and South American markets as the Fusion, the Blue Oval has confirmed that the new Mondeo will not be introduced in Europe and Asia – including Australia – until 2013.

The Fusion/Mondeo is a fresh example of Ford’s more emotional design language that differentiates the brand from the more conservative Toyota Camry and Honda Accord, and which also points the way to the styling of the forthcoming next-generation Taurus and Falcon large cars.

The new Fusion is billed as the first sedan to offer petrol, hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains and also carries a range of “must-have technologies”, including a lanekeeping system, adaptive cruise control, active park assist, blind-spot warning and ‘MyFord Touch’ internet capability.

“Our vision for Fusion was clear – deliver the very best of what ‘One Ford’ stands for,” said Ford’s group vice-president of global product development, Derrick Kuzak.

“We brought our global teams together around a blank slate with the charge to develop a mid-size car with groundbreaking design and jaw-dropping fuel economy – one that featured technologies to help make our customers safer and better drivers. This car is the result.”

While the diesel engine line-up for Mondeo will be revealed closer to its European launch in the first quarter of next year, Ford claims best-in-class fuel economy for the US-spec Fusion in the petrol, hybrid and plug-in hybrid sub-segments.

The straight petrol line-up comprises 133kW/233Nm 1.6-litre and 177kW/339Nm 2.0-litre EcoBoost direct-injection turbocharged four-cylinder engines and a naturally aspirated 126kW/230Nm 2.5-litre four.

Although fitted standard with a six-speed manual, the 1.6 will also offer a six-speed automatic paired with an engine idle-stop system – the first such combination for Ford.

The 2.0-litre is billed as the performance option, mating with a six-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission and to be available with 19-inch wheels and tyres and all-wheel drive.

The Fusion Hybrid downsizes to a new 2.0-litre Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder petrol engine – reduced from 2.5 litres displacement – and switches battery technology from nickelmetal hydride to lithium-ion.

Ford claims the hybrid “maintains performance standards” – combined output is a projected 137kW and 176Nm – and can outperform key petrol-electric competitors such as the Toyota Camry Hybrid and Hyundai Sonata Hybrid in terms of fuel consumption.

Maximum speed under electric-only power rises from 75km/h to 100km/h. The ‘Energi’ plug-in hybrid version is expected to deliver more than 100mpg-e – a miles per gallon equivalency metric for EVs used in the US – and outperform the Chevrolet Volt and Toyota Prius plug-in. Indeed, Ford...............http://goautomedia.cdn.on.net/mags/i...onthly_034.pdf

I'd rather have false-stories speculating on a positive Falcon future than what we've been seeing regarding it's speculated demise.

It's all just speculation after all, and there's no reason why it can't be positive.

Clean up the bonnet/bumper/grille lines and whack an enormous Ford badge in the middle and that almost looks better than an fg2.

Put Territory headlights on it and you're getting closer to the mark.

Need to match the guards to the new front as well.

The bonnet is getting changed to more like Territory in 20112 so the bonnet line above the lights will be much straighter across...

I'm betting that in four years time, global styling will probably evolved onto a slightly different look..

I like the Taurus version better but I'm hoping that FoA uses moderation and changes the look a bit..
Narrow the opening and lift the faux bumper frame a touch...

That Taurus top grille is slightly too big, IMO. If that middle bumper moved up slightly and the headlights dropped a tiny bit, it would look much better. Just my opinion.

my thoughts exactly, Falcon front could be slightly less pronounced and better proportioned..
If we ask nicely, perhaps someone adept with images would probably make the adjustments.....

The more I look at that picture of the Taurus, the more it reminds me of a mini truck of some sort. Not sure why.

To me, Falcon looks like that big geeky kid trying to hide in a school class photo.
Maybe some bold styling would give it a more more positive road presence in the public eye.

That frontal pic in post #17 has a bit of mustang in in IMO (corporate grill for you I guess).

The one in #6 is awful, no offense to the creator its a clean effort but it looks droopy.

I really don't like the new front. It looks too much like an open mouth. I can't even look at the new FG MKII without needing a bucket and it's a tad tame compared to the hideous thing that was rolled out at one of the American motor shows the other week.
It's like someone made a pointy car and then a boss came along and said, 'it's too pointy, cut a bit off the front' and there you have it.. 'the current/future look'.

My opinion is that your negative opinion is pretty much useless and of no interest to anyone that reads this Forum.

The new FGII looks clean and tidy compared to the styling it replaces, and the new Mondeo/Fusion looks Aston-Martin-Esque pure horn.

Geeeez.. Way to cut a guy down. Excuse me for having an OPINION. If we all liked the same things this world would be boring. No need to attack me like that.
Why would anyone on here want to say anything in the first place if people like yourself are going to come back with remarks like that?

This is the first time in 5 years anyone has ever been rude to me on here. Choose your words better next time please.

Mondeo won't arrive until next year and by then, it will only a short while to 2014 and the next update.

I know. I was just expressing my opinion too. Any opinion is OK right? Or are some opinions different? Chin up there buddy.

Your advice on word choice is taken.

It seems a pity that it's going to take so long for that styling to reach Australia. Are we at the tail end of the Mondeo release cycle, or are we getting the next Mondeo when the rest of Europe gets it?
