I have been on the lookout for a Mk1 3000 GT to round out my "English" collection, I have a 1974 MK2 3.0 Ghia and a MK3 2.8i.
Anyway, I have stumbled on a 3000 GT that has been modified with a 351C, C4 auto, 9 inch, 5 stud wheels and roll cage. Car looks good but tatty under the hood and inside. Also has a chassis connector. As I was brought up in South Africa in the early 70s the thought of a Perana Replica springs into my head. So if I go for this car, I will pull the Cleveland and auto in favor of a 302W and manual, nice state of tune, solid cam, alloy intake etc, say 280 to 320hp. Old school wheels, say 14x7 with 245/50-14 all round, tight suspension and good brakes. So now for some questions. What trans should I run, Cortina 6 Top Loader, BW single rail or other. What clutch set up. How to mount a hydralic clutch master cylinder? Clutch slave cylinder? What brakes to use, including master cylinder and booster? What radiator? The one in the car is a XA-C cross flow and it hangs out below the front bumper, not a pretty sight. Keep the 9 inch or go for a modified BW tin hat LSD with XD Falcon discs? (Less unsprung weight) And last but not least, how hard is it to register in Victoria, what has to be done? Car is still registerd but with a V6 I live in Gisborne, Calder is just down the road so I fancy a good fast track car. Drag racing is not my cup of tea, although I do like to watch. Should I avoid it like the plague? Advice appreciated. Steve |
