Watch for rough idle on cold start and also signs of power steering fluid boil over as that may indicate a trip to the track (but not necessarily).
Also pay close attention to the condition of the tires as the rear have a tendency to chew the insides and there is not much adjustment you can do and they are a pricey tire due to the odd size . Also look at the underside of the bonnet and the inner wings. They should be a dull, not shiney finish. If they are gloss it may indicate accident repairs. Make sure you have all the centre caps for the rims too and a daub of silicon on the inside will make sure they stay there too. Apart from that they are a great little car and very reliable and awesome to drive, they handle like a go kart.

she picked up a 07 xr4 with 44,000k's. Its panther black, second day it was here she had the windows tinted pretty dark, yesterday i made a CAI just like the rest of the intakes for sale, im trying to get her to buy a flexi pipe then get the rear muffler done. What else is good mod's for these pocket rockets, this thing is awesome and has suprised so many mates lol

Congrats in the purchase. Sure she will love it and you will probably find yourself trying to pinch it for a spin too.
There is a dedicated XR4 forum which has a heap of info but in general the main areas which are restricted from the factory are: Intake Flexi - Hitech Exhausts or Milltek Cat - Milltek Resonator and Back muffler - HiTech or Milltek Tune - Dream Science or Bluefin Suspension - Eibach springs and Whiteline Rear Sway Bar Pretty easy to free up a bit more power and make them handle like a go kart. Have fun

Thanks heaps mate, lol she already seems to think its more my car then her's, ill get her to get the flex pipe then cat and rear muffler. Ill continue updating with how the car reacted to the mods for other owners. Also, what are they like when they are lowered ? If they chew the rear's now wouldnt lowering make it even worse ? Thanks again mate

I am seriously considering one of these for a daily driver, they sound like a fun car to drive, must take one for a test drive one day.
Would be going for a blue one with white stripes (yes I like the stripes) as it has the matching blue dash and seat inserts.

This was done to keep the stock car just under 150hp to meet strict European laws regarding Insurance and hence target market audience If you just replace the stock Flexi and the rear muffler with aftermarket products you will open up that restriction and hence get some more horses ... the only other main restriction in the car (again deliberate), is the air intake system, this also needs to be replaced with something like a CAI aftermarket product (which needs to be enclosed for Australia), such as the Mountune product. |

Awesome, thanks alot, i will just get the flex pipe then, she also has number plates on order that say mi-07-xr I also made a pod filter enclosure yesterday which sits tight up against the battery, we also went to a private road last night and beat a vz sv6 commdore which was a very big suprise to her lol. She also has a set of 17 inch rims coming for it, then might look into getting it lowered or getting angel eye head lights and black tail lights, she is also getting a double din dvd player for it. I will upload some pic's once the weather clears up a bit, thanks all for your awesome help, your helping us out alot !

Powerflex lower engine mounts are also a very worthwhile mod for the XR4.
Ford (in their wisdom) used the same lower mounts on the more powerful ST/XR4 as all the other WQ Fiesta's models (DOH!) ... Result = lower mounts wear out very quickly and crack leading to extensive engine movement in the engine bay, this of course then leads to exhaust joints, mounts and the flexi pipe breaking etc. Pumaspeed is but one company that sell them, http://www.pumaspeed.co.uk/showdetai...?productID=103 I actually got mine from http://www.larkspeed.com/ ... they was a bit cheaper at the time. |

The manifold can be expensive to fit and is only really needed if you want to push towards 185-200hp as they will reduce the low to mid range torque in favour of more top-end power.

HiTech make them in Australia, Milltek, Piper, Mongoose, Remus, Blue Flame, and several others make them overseas.
I had a Piper system which I ordered from Graham Goode Racing. Arrived from the UK to Perth in 3 days and sounded awesome. Very deep and burbly
