My son recently bought a 2002 CL and when he (or I) change up in the gears, instead of dropping back to idle, it increases, sometimes going up to nearly 3000rpm. This occurs even though I take my time from foot off the accelerator to actually change up the gear. Does anybody know what might be the root cause of this problem. I have seen in this forum when they are cold this can occur (even going as high as 7000rpm).

Maybe the throttle is sticking? Though I think that would just keep the revs the same, rather than upping them.

Thanks, it's not likely to be the TPS either then? I must admit it does feel like a half decent spring would do the job.
