Recommend a ute for electrician

Hey all,
I will be starting an apprenticeship as an electrical fitter mechanic soon and I am after a few ideas for a good tradesman ute that will turn heads and be worth something in the years to come. I will probably be keeping my AUII sedan for road trips with mates, etc.

: and I have seen a lot of xr8 series II pursuits for sale at the moment, are these alright?

Yeah they are very alright, but if you want them to keep their value, then maybe not.

What about a Hi-Lux? That seems like the sensible option.

Agreed, but not the hi-lux bit. Get an AU3 tradesman or something. You can get some nifty trays and setups (boxes etc) that are tailor made for people like yourself.

If its a work hack I wouldn't kill a XR8 etc, but thats just me.

Thanks for your input guys, I did have a look at the AU tradesman ute an yeah sure they have everything I need but I would love an 8 and I swore that I would never by a lux, but thats just me lol.

Also I will working for a electrcity company so basically the ute would just be used going to and from work and also a couple of odd jobs on the weekend. So it wouldn't get a hard time at all.

I spose I could go completely left field and get a wagon!

AH ok. Well then, get a Pursuit for sure. All depends on how much you want to spend I guess.

If you keep looking you might be able to find a XL or XLS ute with a V8.

Pursuits are going for as little as $18,000 these days, it's a buyers world. get the pursuit if you can afford the insurance or an xr8 if you can't. i'm 20 and no one will insure me if i get a pursuit and that's with a PERFECT record, and iv'e had my opens for a year now.

But if it's just going to be a work ute why waste money on an XR8? Buy a stock ute and keep the money for your AU sedan. It's just a work ute.

Ultimately the sedan will have to go.
I've ploughed a lot of money into it, not for performance or looks, but more for things like two alternators, power steering rack, etc.
And car repayments, 2x rego's, 2x insurance is going to be a killer. I will have to set aside some serious budget time tonight and see what I come up with.
I may have to go with the stocko ute but it's nice to dream for the now!

Well if you are going to get rid of the sedan then that changes the whole picture. Get something semi nice then.

Hey ... the XLS's aren't that bad at all ... and if you can find one ... get the V8.
The XLS version is literaly an XR without the front nose and kit/wheels ... that's all.

2nd hand with options ... it is cheaper in the long run to get the XR with all the extras in it.

If on a budget ... get an XLS and mod from there.

could even go the XR6 ute, bit more power than an XLS, better looking front end, sometimes in manual, better dash, etc for not much more than an xls
even XR8's are going for under 18k here and there....depends its up too you

personally id just get the XR6 ute, or a patrol or hilux 4x4 not 4x2 and be done with it, apprentices dont make 1mil a year you dont want to spend all the take home money on fuel rego and insurance...
and just save the lot dont even waste it on the car, you might not even do half the jobs that require all the tools of the trade just yet, then if you do and have money get the XR8 or pursuit and attach the ladder racks, etc to it
