TDCi Oil Filter Location

Hi all,

I want to do a service on my LT TDCi, I have had a good look around but can't find any sign of the oil filter . I realize it is in a canister but I can't seem to find where it is, any pictures would be great. Also is there a free download of the service manual, I found a company selling it for $98.00 for download but that is a fair chunk of money for a download.

I bought on ebay a Haynes Ford Focus Diesel Workshop Manual which covers the diesel engines (which includes the 2.0litre we get) for about 21 GBP including shipping. Plenty of pictures in it!
It seems they hide the oil filter under the fuel filter in front RHS of engine bay.

I purchased the Haynes manual (Book no 4807) from Pitstop bookshop in Perth. It was about $60. You should be able to get it from a motoring bookshop locally.

Hi Elgreko,

Is this the round black plastic topped unit with what looks like a 17mm hex head on the top?

OK, just for people who are searching for this thread in future, the Black Plastic round housing under the fuel filter IS the Oil Filter. Use a 27mm Socket to get it off, and tension to 18Ft Lbs when refitting. It is important to note oil WILL go everywhere if your not careful, place a rag under the oil filter housing to catch any oil that falls. The filter stays inside the upper housing when removing from the car, it will need a good tug to get it out of the housing, always use the new O Ring that comes with the filter and you should not have any leaks.

I decided to use Nulon 5w 30 full synthetic, it is approved by Ford and is designed for Diesel's with a particulate filter in the exhaust like the TDCi. The only problem is that the Focus uses 5.5 Litres of oil and it only comes in 5 Litre packs. I purchased a 10 Litre pack so next time I only need a single 5 litre pack. There should be enough left over for the following oil change to use a single pack again.

At $100 for the 10 litre pack it makes for an expensive oil change but will pay for itself in future, I want to change it every 8000km's. I will get the B service done by Ford as there is a lot of stuff that needs specialist tools.

Thanks for everyone's input, I eventually bought the Haynes manual from Pitstop in Perth, they sent it over night and got it at 8.30am the next day - great service PitStop.
