I have installed a kd-r316 jvc head unit into my au and it is displaying the word "protect" when i increased the volume. I reset the unit as per the manual and is now permanantly displaying "protect".
Can anybody tell me what could cause this problem? |

You had it too loud, so it's gone into protect mode?

Looked up JVC site and found this:
“PROTECT” appears on the display and no operations can be done. Check to be sure the terminals of the speaker leads are covered with insulating tape properly, then reset the unit ( 3). If “PROTECT” does not disappear, consult your JVC car audio dealer or a company supplying kits.

JC is the man once again!
To the OP, have you looked at the JVC site or tried contacting them?

Yeah i read that bit on thier site. I have checked the speakers and they are the original units from factory and have the plastic clip that seperates the wires, so i'm not sure if that is the problem.
My question was what should i look for now that the speaker wires look ok. thanks for the replies. |

Try contacting JVC directly, at least they'll point you in the direction of an authorised repairer if they can't work out how to fix it...

Make sure there arent any nicks in the wires where you've worked. Are your joins to the speakers from the loom clean. - to - + to +
failing that. Back to manufacture for repair. Just double check all the connections on every thing is all I can think of. Assuming your running 4 speakers? |

The protection circuit cuts in when it registers incorrect load from the speakers. Or no load at all. Check the speaker requirements for the HU against the speakers in the vehicle. For example the HU might require 4 ohm speakers and the ones you have might be 16 ohm.

Problem sorted. it is the drivers door speaker, the piece that the wires plug onto has seperated from the speaker body. i can see now how it was intermitant on the factory deck as it is able to move and short out.
once again a big thanks for the replies. much appreciated. |
