Anyone who reads the paper here in Vic would have seen that Holden seem to have an attratction with Trees.
Here are the links for those who don't rear the papaer here in Vic. http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sto...24-661,00.html http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sto...11-661,00.html Now all those who want a quick fix will scream 'Speed kills' but with the 'Wipe of 5' camplain that has been running for years, our road toll remains the same. Don't you think it's time they stop wasting time with this and start looking at the reasons that cause road fatalities? Sure driving danerously does include speeding, but it is not the sole reason why people keep dieing!

Not really, I drive cars every day. I would say it's more like, 'People driving cars poorly cause accidents'! And there in lies the problem. Make it harder to get a license, and the quality of drivers will increase.

I just received my license renewal in the mail and apparently I've been a good boy. No traffic infringements in 3yrs so I get a huge discount of $11.30 for a 3 year license, or $38.50 for a ten year.
Whoopdie freakin doo! I'm going to do absolutely everything in my power to be a good driver just because I saved $3.80 a year... I dont think so...I lose that much in the weekly petrol price cycle. I've had no infringements because: 1) I generally drive within the speed limits, and 2) I have been lucky that Mr.plod hasn't been around when I have done stupid things. Maybe they should work the other way, penalise you when it comes time to renew your license, similar to what they are trying for rego renewal. Obviously the penalties would need to be weighted for the offences or you would end up with your average Joe copping a huge bill for minor speed infringements. |

+1 for your idea MAD
I got my renewal letter too, and I can't say that the saving of $3.80 will get me far. But I am sure that the government would argue that if there is a serial offender and his penalties go through the roof, they probably won't take their licence because "If I dont have a licence, I don't have a job, and no job, no payment of fines." Worked for my uncle for years and years, so while I don't approve of that excuse, there needs to be a cut-off where if they get x amounts of penalties, they see the inside of the jail cell.

The magnetic properties of tree's hitting the B pillar is unbelievable.
Love to see a study, on why "tree to B-pillar impacts" happen a lot. I think it's by viewing angle of the driver in the seat, that we miss what's in front, and forget about what's behind us in that split second of panic, hence the B-Pillar hits. |

I know, maybe some more speed cameras need to be introduced because as our sign says as you pass one by "speed cameras save lives"!
It's obvious that there were no speed cameras around these accidents scenes because someone still died but if by some chance these poor soles did pass through an existing camera, why didn’t they save their life??? Also who would pay the fine now??? If you do not educate these young people from around year 8 on, then this will still be happening for years to come. Education is the key. BTW don't think that just Commodores are tree magnets either because stupid driving should be seen for what it is, stupid driving. check this out from last week. http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/s...9-2682,00.html |

More commodores in accidents, more trees involved in commodore collisions; Darwin had a theory about natural selection didn't he, survival of the fittest?

BTW, incase you didn't get it, my comment was a bit tongue in cheek; sort of like magnets in trees.

My old man had to drive round the block with the local copper to get his license back in the day. It's what they are teaching that is the problem, no where in the test is there how to control a car in a emergency situation driving at speed Ect Ect. You can't save some people, natural selection comes into it! I once watched a guy loose control of his car (yes it was a commodore) and slam it into a tree his response "I'm going to cut that Fing tree down". I know another mate (and i use that term loosely) who has written off 3 OMG Commodores. Not once has he said it happened cause he was being a tool, it's always, Oh it was too slippery at the time, the auto changed gears at the wrong time, i hit some gravel on the road blar blar blar Some people have the inability too think before they do something. I speed some times, I slide the rear end out once in a wile, and in 220,000 odd Km I've never had a crash wonder why, not saying i never will but if i do ill be the first one to admit i fked up!

the speed that thrills is the speed that kills.....my uncle used to say that to me , i think a lot of this tree hitting out of controlness( a new word ) is the dare devil mentality that is in many drivers .... and is in mostly the young who push the limits with out knowing where and when the limits are, and speed camera`s won`t do a dam thing unless they are in the drivers face so that drivers feel the glassy stare of big brother the whole time at intervals no longer than 15 seconds apart (attention span anyone), as long as cars have propulsion and drivers are human accidents will happen.

[controversial opinion - not necessarily fully subscribed to - even by me]
I wonder how many people realise that hitting a tree is very likely the worst possible outcome for the occupants of your car. Trees over say, 20cm diameter will not give much, and will focus all the force into a small area of your car. And the dirt as you approach the tree is likely not too good for breaking. In many circumstances, I propose that a side swipe under full breaking might be better overall to reduce human impact. [/controversial opinion] |

I can see the rear occupant being ejected because of the prang but I am surprised that all 3 were... unless they weren't wearing seat belts.
It's amazing how many people still get ejected and killed from prangs that need not be fatal. Buckle up .. it's that easy. |

I think it's obvious the poleys sit around a table. and the hands will always go up if the out come will generate more revenue.
The poleys themselves couldn't drive jack. so they have no idea. Up hear in QLD we had a premier called peter beatoff. He was against driver training. I recon if ya cant control a car in a slide you should not be on the road. it's just as bad as a drunk driver. how many people, when they loose control. just lock up the brakes. let go of the wheel. close there eyes and put their hands over their face. true story! : |

That 19yr old is pretty tragic. If I must nit pick however. Late model commodore? From what I saw it was a VT, hardly late model.
