Default older model daily drivers

Saw a sweet 6 cyclinder gold XW on the M4 in sydney this arvo in peak hour. I used to see a centura in the mornings in peak hour, its awesome seeing the old girls out as daily drivers, nice change from box hyundais

I was just wondering how many people out there use their older model cars as daily drivers

I used to drive my XC GXL everyday and loved driving it. But the weekend cruises didn't feel special anymore. Not like it does now with the coupe when Im hanging out for the weekened to take it out for a lap. Not sure if that sounds strange or not.

A guy I work with drives his XW wagon to work every day, hail or shine. It's a 6 and has 12 slotters and it's that gold colour. It's pretty mint! He has a white sedan with a Windsor that he drives to work on the odd occasion too

Good thread, I've got an itch of late to buy something starting with X and have visions of using it for my daily - I don't do a lot of kms.

Who uses one in town as a regular driver? Is my memory heavily tainted a rosey colour?

Honestly I have taken to driving the coupe everyday...got to a point where I thought.."great weekender or drive it when I feel like it:" Decided drive it when I feel like it...turns out the steering didnt agree. Like all older model cars...after 30years...they get a bit tempremental!!

I used to drive my '66 Mustang Coupe daily for 3 years and she was left hand drive.

Going through the drive through was interesting...still managed to get my food ok but the look on the kids faces was funny...

Ok... I have a BA GTP. I've done the intake, Basic 98 flash tune and 80mm throttle body. She hauls heaps quicker, even bags up easy as with the traction still on. I'm ok with getting a intake pipe upgrade and I'm organising the exhaust. What else is easy to do? I'm happy to do an all in 1 vernier/cams/pump cogs/crank damper/ tensioner trick down the track, is there any trick in between? I'm open to sugestions as I've done some crazy in the past to all my clevelands from on line help. Currently building a sick XC 351 ute.

Oh yeah, I still have the XB GS Pano I've had for the last 15 years. She's awaiting some love but I got a hell of a load of parts with her name on 'em. right up to the 383C

for me it's either the 1977 P6 LTD (351) or the 1984 F-100 (250). they both use about the same amount of fuel around town (approx 20L/100Km) but i only drive 15km's to get to work (30km round trip) and as i work night shift, i am never in peak hour traffic.

I used to drive my '67 mustang as a daily for a couple of years. Neighbors never complained about my 6am starts...

When the minor rebuild occurred, it was relegated to weekend use.

Not quite a daily, but ive been driving my HX a hell of a lot. Done about 8 thousand kays in 6 months, not a huge amount, but yeah could qualify as a daily.

And i have dont have too many problems doing it, just wish it had A/C in summer. Brown Vinyl Seats + Lots of Glass Area = Hothouse. And its not the most suitable car for underground shopping centre carparks. In fact if my Falcon was written off, id have no problems having the HX as my only car for a while, only the fuel economy would kill me in the end.

I drive my '76 truck everyday, it's neither pretty or the easiest thing to park but I enjoy it.

Drive 4 door VG Valiant every day rain, hail or shine, Its a bit rough but jump in and go any where. Vinyl seats get hot, no A/c, heaters not connected but always have and always will have pre 1975 cars as daily drives. Might put a/c in the charger Iam building then it will be the daily drive and the VG will go into the shed for a tidy up.

'71 xy falcon 500 daily, 250 with 4 on the floor :
Its the best car for my long daily trips, about 80 k's each way on a pretty rough highway, sits beautifully on the road, really effortless to cruise in with manual steering she feels the road for me! And there's a lot to be said for the stock suspension, gives a very comfy ride. Fuel economy is great as she runs on lpg, the brown vinyl does get hot, but i just leave a towel over the seat to avoid burns. I'm yet to see why people complain about drum brakes as i've found them to be great, if anything they lock up easier than the other car, and haven't experienced fade yet. I can't see myself changing my daily anytime soon to some twitchy plastic slushbox powered excel or anything
