Hey guys.

Just wondering if anyone has had a fairly bog stock XR8 200 or 220 model...Maybe just a twin system and an air intake....And flash tuned it...and how much gain they got from it?

Cheers

Most seem to pick up between 10 to 15 rwk with a generic tune 20 to 30 with a custum tune ,zorst, cai then there are the freaks :

I'd be quite interested in anyones response to that question too. And if possible, how much quicker it made the car. In quarter mile for instance.

cant give you 1/4 mile figures as S.A. still doesnt have a drag strip.

but my car jumped from 175 stock, to 202rwkw with hi flow cats, cat back exhaust, k&n filter and custom flashed tune.

the different from running the stock tune to the custom tune, there is definately a noticeable difference in pickup, throttle response.

What sort of money would you be looking at a generic tune as opposed to a custom job.

Has anyone had work done here in Vic that they could recommend and give a rough estimate of the cost. Thanks in advance.

but whoosha's is a freak and im sure that no one else will get near that time with the same mods he has done.

either that or whoosha is the freak, as drags all comes down to drivers ability. especially in a manual, autos are easy not much you can do wrong.

You mite be rite on both counts : but for comparison Sake as we did each mod we did a test and tune day as such, as well as dyno time to check if we were going in the rite direction, every little bit helped, and as I'm told I tend to be of a tight a$$ so value for $$ was what I wanted and got (hence why the unichip is still there and not a flash box) So back to the original ?? A custom Flash tune is the way to go.Generic may or may not improve what you allready have..
If I started it all over again I would do exactly the same, but as the flash tune boxes are now cheaper I would go with that over the Unichip

you can pick up Genric box for around the $500 to $600 a custom tune from most of the site sponsors will be around the $850 to $1000 mark depending on the mods you have and time they have to spend on setting it up

Sorry to hi-jack GSH, but do they do flash boxes for the AU's? All the ones I see are for BA onwards.

I think your right too mickyyyy, might look at going a slightly bigger stick. I imagine best to tune after I do that?

Yes they do, the one for the BA is that same as the one for the AU.

Thanks Russell, might have to look into getting one. I'd probably only look into a custom tune if I had more work that cats back done.

Where would be the best place to get a tuner? Which would be best, Ford Flash 2, or the Livewire?

i started off with 164rwkw, jumped to 171rwkw with dual 2.5" exaust and big hole in the air box, then custom tune went to 190rwkw, then loosed the straps off a little bit and pulled 207rwkw but was told not to tell you that
Ended up being a 25rwkw gain which i'm very happy with.

Cool, thanks again b2tf lol, should the car be surging (rolling in a "lumpy" sort of way) after releasing the brake and letting it roll? (in an auto of course) or is that something that can be tuned out?

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but whilst on the topic has anyone flash tuned an AU XR6 VCT with good results? I'm planning a custom tune... is it bang for buck?

Cheers

Sorry for the late reply but assuming the car is in 'D' then yes I would think this is normal. It can be "tuned" as such but you'd be more needing to look at the cam's timing etc, not the EEC side of things.

My manual dead stock went 14.3, After a few visits got it down to 14.1@96mph.
Did manage with cats back exhaust to get 3x 13.9 on the one night and was very surprised.

Now after full exhaust,C&L air meter and a good flash tune have done heaps of 13.7 quarters with the best being 13.717@101 mph.

Want to put 3.9 diff gears soon and see how it goes with that.

3x you homo :P Yeh so i thought down the plex i beat em all! Maybe it was just the drives....Im running a 14.9 with a cat back and a panel filter...I honestly thought the power dif between a S3 and S2 was jack all............Everyone seems to be running low 14s in them.....

Anyhoo the plan is for me. After i get my new dirtbike he he.......Manual S3.........twin system extractors and a good CAI and see where we are at im hoping mid to high 13s........14.0 i will be happy with.........Then a cam and heads probably.....then see where we are at...After that it will probably have a cover throwen on it and driven on the weekend.

And seeing i think AUs will be a collectors item im keeping mine

Also goign to look into some trickflow gear.........Anyone had an experience or know alot about it...

Saw a EL XR8 at the drags with everything trickflow was running a 13.7 by memory

At near stock the best you will get is a high 13. Whoosha's is the quickest with just those mods and he has run a 13.7, but his XR is a freak and he can drive. I reckon a 14.0 is a good goal and with heads and a cam on top of that a mid 13 would be achievable.

Russell....Ive looked into the 347 side of things...Keep being told there un reliable and like to play up...How do you find it? Also being a 347 it doesnt seem ALOT quicker than a S3?

Whoever told you that needs to find a decent engine builder. Mines done over 60k now and hasn't missed a beat, it gets a bit cranky when it's hot or in traffic but it is a Windsor so that is expected and part of its character.

It is a fair bit quicker than an SIII, I have stock diff gears and standard stall which in a 302 would mean a mid to low 14. A second or near enough to it is a fair whack on the 1/4.

You may join lol, there is a thread in the Windsor section of the forums.
