P platers and high powered cars

Every day I drive around western melbourne and see P platers in gen 111 commies, BA xr8's etc obviously way over the p plate laws (3.5ltr per tonne)including the latest requirements! How do they get away with it? We are driving around in a 302 V8 because of the law and it shits me when I see this everyday!!!

i agree, this $h!ts me up the wall when i see this blatent disregard for the P-Plate rules by the cops, when they can drive around in those cars and i get 3, yes 3 demerit points and $120 buck fine for not having 1 p-plate up. I dont understand why cops aren't pulling them over and off the road A.S.A.P.

If they're utes they probably have work exemptions.

I haven't seen this done personally, but I'm sure you could get an exemption for a sedan also. I know people who have to tow around very heavy tool trailers or even the load plasterers carry, sometimes a 6 just doesn't cut it.

Putting P plates on an SS/XR is suicide. When I was on my P's I always drove around without P plates, otherwise it's cop bait.

but nah seriously, they drive them because they don't care! im on my full liscence as of 2 weeks ago, and depending on what im driving i still put my P's up (even thought i havent needed them for over a year and a half) ... you get the looks and thats what people care about haha ... i just put them up to annoy people ... looks like it works too :P

What kind of person wishes someone else gets fined by the cops? :togo: There was nothing stopping you from doing the same thing and risk getting caught breaking the law? You play, you (potentially) pay.

me, especially the dopes that hang in the right hand lane on the freeway and type text messages also while on the freeway or even on the streets.like this silly little girl on her p's come over into my lane and almost sideswiped me,I look over and there she is looking into her lap obviuosly typing a text message on her phone.wake up goofy.

You would be suprised how often these peoiple do get pulled over, and yes do get fined.

Some people in that situation arn't in it by choice, i got my XR8 whilst living in WA and was planning on staying there, WA doesn't have power to weight laws or restrictions, having since moved back to victoria and being locked into a loan, i was able to apply for an exemtion to the rules through Vicroads, yes you can do it and yes if you have a real case they can't say no forever, after about 3-4 Letter and disclosing alot of person information they permitted me my exemption.

i really don't see what the fuss is about, it's not like they are hurting you, just seems your jealous so hold on a couple of years and then get you own, not a big deal.

Aren't P plates meant to warn other drivers that the person has only just got their license and is probably not as experienced? Pretty arrogant to take them off just because you don't want the extra attention and its that kind of attitude that makes you a target for the cops.
There are lots of laws that can be broken accidentally, and i've got some sympathy for that, but the ones like this when someone has made a point of taking their plates off just because they think they know better than everyone else deserves more attention from the cops.
Ditto the P platers driving round in cars they aren't licensed to drive. If you really do need a V8, get the exemption. The 'fu$$ them i'll drive what i want' attitude isn't going to do you any favors when you do get pulled over or have an accident.

I'm pretty sure that is against the law as well. But then if you didn't have your P plates showing, the 15 year olds at the Maccas carpark wouldn't be impressed now would they?

Yep - it's also a 3 point fine to display plates that aren't required.
