Exclamation AU3 Brake Replacement

Hi everyone,

Here's an interesting one for someone: I've just tried to replace the standard front discs and hit a small problem: the discs seem to have rusted or something to the hub, making them rather resistant to removal. Has anyone encountered this before, and if so, what was the fix? I've replace the discs on my old AU2 before, and it took about half an hour from start to finish.

If I get the chance I'll post a photo or two if that helps.

Thanks in advance.

If in doubt, give it a clout!
The bigger the doubt, the bigger the clout!

Seriously though, give them a belting with a large rubber Mallet or a piece of timber with a steel hammer, to stop any metal shattering and injuring you!

To soften and break down rust the best product I have found that works really well is Rostoff by Wurths (thats not a typo - its not Rustoff) for releasing anything that is stuck. I tried WD40 and others that didn't make a difference on the bolt that goes thru front lower suspension arm on a XD but the Rostoff worked 1st up.

Also works really well on rear rotors siezed onto the axle end

I tried that, but our mallet was crying out in pain

I'll put some Penetrene in there and give it another touch up, and if that fails the good old three point pullers might have to make an appearance...thought I did try the good old two pointers and they sucked big time.

It sucks, the AU2 was so easy I was surprised that people actually paid mechanics to do it.

It has nothing to do with it being an AU2 or AU3. It's all about how rust forms. I'd say your car has been in a coastal area, or on a boat ramp at some stage and not washed off properly.

Yeah I know...it's just how I tell the difference between the two...one of those stupid quirks.

I though that too at first, but it has full service history, started in Wagga as a Credit Union company chariot, then went to a bloke in Leeton for the last 4-5 years...and he's not the boating type, but you never know I guess.

Then again, does it really matter?

Doesn't need to be near the sea to have rust, it could live on dry country roads, the dust get's in every nook & cranny, then dust becomes soil, and add a litle moisture, over time it will rust. :
cheers mick.

Is he the drinking type? The car might have spent some time in one of the irrigation canals
