With Casper absent due to personal reasons and Bucky resigning.
What is the process for selecting replacement moderators?
Are individuals approached or is it a case of volunteering to take on the role,
or will moderators from other areas take it up?

Thanks for the vote of confidence, but as I understand it, they don't give moderator-ship to those that have previously been banned. Looks like HLC gets it then!

Another vote for JC as Moderator!

How long ago was it that you were banned? If it was a while ago, and a minor offence, I see no reason why it should stand against you now. Surely there's no one here who has your level of love for and knowledge of the AU.

What's more, your experience isn't just theoretical, you have stacks and stacks of hands on tinkering and maintenance experience and are more than happy to pass that on to others.

JC for Mod, JC for Mod, JC for Mod, JC for Mod, JC for Mod, JC for Mod!

Pol will probably kill me for suggesting it, so ssssssshhhhhhhh don't tell her! LOL!

Yes and JC's one we shouldn't let slip away.

I'm sure the new moderator will bring great moderation skills but JC has great knowledge as well and we really should try and retain that in here.

There's quite a number of quality AU members in here who will do well as a moderator for us. I guess in the end ... it comes down to the choice of the Admin team after careful consideration.

I'm sure who ever the admin team select will be up to the job. no one choice will please everyone but remember it is not an easy job and we need to respect the decision of the admin team. they have a lot of things to consider in making a choice that we do not know about. when a new mod is appointed we need to support him / her as this is not an easy job and the transition my not be easy but with support from the members it just might be easier. please no fights while they are getting used to the role ( or ever but that would be too much to ask )

good luck to who ever is appointed

Your exactly right. When I was mod for the Performance room in the early days of this forum, I had some nutters to deal with!! & I do mean nutters!! :
The Addmin do give great support,. But as was my case. There was a concerted effort put in by a few influencial [spelling] to get me outed, & they got there way.
But the funny thing is, they have mostly been banned, or have faded into the wood work now. :
So its a very different place to what it once was..
But beleive me its a thankless job, your dammed if you do, & your dammed if you dont in most cases. But now would be much better, most guys are great & get along very well. Even us old hands have noticed a calming of the waters.. Good luck whom ever gets it. :

Thanks Ronwest, SVO, and Dok, GK & the rest of you. I'm not going anywhere, regardless if I'm a mod or not. I actually don't spend as much time on the forums as I used to, so not sure becoming a mod would be a good move for me anyway (in terms of AFF/Family life balance).

And I currently pseudo moderate anyway - as can all of you. There is a little button down at the bottom left of every post (safety triangle thing), that reports bad posts. I use it when I think it's needed, and the mods/admin team generally take some form of action, ranging from a PM saying "thanks, we think it's fine", to removing the offending post. If everyone did that, the moderators jobs would be so much easier.
