Just wondering if the red book site is a good guide on car values. I have been told by a dealer that they dont use it any more used:

Depends, wholesalers usually dont use it unless the vehicle is something unique (they dont see alot of).
For Falcons and Commodores most of them value them based on their experience of what they are worth (which is usually in line with redbook neways). |

I think it a good guide.
I recently sold my BF Typhoon, I got a price from redbook, and then did some reasearch on carsales.com.au and drive.com.au etc...... I priced it at what I saw as the market value, and it sold in three days. I think the trade in prices are around the dealer wholesale prices.

for lack of anything else, the data in Redbook is a pretty good effort. I regularly quote Redbook with a fair amount of confidence until someone else can point me to a more reliable and comprehensive data source

try this one instead:
in the VALUE MY CAR drop down window. http://www.drive.com.au/Editorial/AdviceResearch/ this is powered by Glass Guide and is more accurate than Red book. |

AutoEdge, which is the corporate system that is used/created by Glass Guide is used by all of the banks (or at least most of them) and insurance companies for valuations and vehicle information.
So while RedBook.com.au is good, AutoEdge/Glass Guide is what the big companies use.

redbook is ok, as long as your not trying to value cars over 15 years old, then it just becomes a bit silly
