G'day guys, my ute has been loosing all the charge out of the battery the last few days, ide jump start it and it would run fine but when i turned it of it wouldnt start again.
So today i went and got a new $120 battery, the right type for my car. I droped it in put the terminals on went to go start it and nothing... turned it off then on and again nothing. the dash has gone weird aswell, the ODO doesnt come up and random lights light up, no engine or battery lights and there is a ticking noise coming from behind the dash and nothing electric works except for interier light which flashes in tune with the ticking noise. im putting it down to the cumputer but with no experence in this area i really dont know, any help would be fantastic. Cheers Guys Marty |

The ticking noise is your starter motor trying to start the car. Im not 100% on this but I would check your starter motor and alternator.

As weird as it may sound, leave it for a few hours then try to start it. You may have simply just drained the hell out of it and it needs time to charge up again (and yeah I did read you bought a new battery).

Sounds like you also may have an earthing problem. get a solid (not kmart) jumper lead and create a secondary earth making sure you bight into the terminal post itself and run it to the block. If you have an earthing problem this should make it start. If it doesn't change then I have heard of oxidisation issues in main harness plugs.

Sounds like your alternator..
And for a short story, I had the same problem once, went insane trying to find out why. Then relized what I believe to be the alternator cable off...It was a male bimbo moment... |
