Default re diff gears ratios etc

OK guys I know that the XR's have the Borg Warner 7.8 inch rear and we can get gears upto 4.11's for them,

Here the query, if one wanted to fit a mini spool as well do we have 25, 28 or 31 spline axles?

i am pretty sure it has 28 spline axles. why would you want to fit a minispool if it has a lsd already?

Yeah 28 spline.

Mate, your going to kill that poor little BW diff with your HP.

By the time you get that diff all sorted with mini spool, diff gears, labour to take out and fit etc, your already up for at least 1/2 price of a 9" conversion (solid axle) which would be a hell of a lot better in the long run, but it all depends what you are going to do with your car.

If its primarily going to be used for drags, then it wont last very long after a good launch.

Because his car is slighly more modified than your average XR.

And yes I'm 98% sure we have 28 spline axels.

There are plenty of high horse power cars around running borg warner 78's. They were fitted to Pursuit 250's as a heavy duty upgrade from std XR8 borg warner and so far mines copped a hiding without complaint and my mates has 178000 on the clock with plenty of burnouts ,dropped clutches and his is fine too. I guess it's a personal preference

True, they are a strong diff, but in utes with solid axles, they are a better setup for higher HP cars than the IRS cars with driveshafts.

Also you have to remember that he has mega power under his hood, and for him to hook up at the drag strip, he will toast the diff setup real easy.

It all depends on what he wants to do with the car, for a drag setup, the solid axle setup will be much better and stronger, where as the IRS setup would be much better on the circuit.

Stu im pretty sure they are 28 spline. But when you put the C4 in you might need the nine inch. With the manual so far with your clutch the diff probably hasn't seen the full extent of lardass's power. If you do want mini spool i might be able to help you out with that one :nutsycuck

It sucks having the problems you've got dosn't it. To much power for the driveline to put on the ground. If only i had that problem

Edit: I found out a few things with your IRS - Live axel ill talk to you on saturady.

Yes they are a 28 spline

You will find If you spool it then your diff will last a bit longer
BUT you then have problems with the lower trailing arm Front bush's
as they will come adrift from the center pin after a while.

That'd be for a live axel but I dare say he has IRS being an XR.

You can get an alloy housing to suit 9" centre now that will fit in with the IRS ...
